The history of gun lover gift giving in Defiance, Ohio begins with the purchase of a revolver by Enoch Barnes. The weapon was purchased at the old Wm. Jennings store on Main Street in 1892. It is believed that Barnes and his wife, Lulu, acquired the revolver as a wedding present to each other in 1902. The gun would remain in their family for over sixty years and was passed down to Enoch’s son-in-law, Clayton Stroud, Jr., who also served as Mayor of Defiance from 1988 to 1992. In 1978, Enoch’s grandson Donny Stroud donated the firearm to the city of Defiance in memory of his father-in-law and grandfather. The handgun has been displayed at City Hall ever since.

Defiance, Ohio is an unincorporated community in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 437 at the 2010 census. It was named for the town of Defiance, Kansas. The first permanent settler in Defiance was John Armstrong in 1835. A post office called Defiance was established in 1839, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1851, a group of men from Erie County consisting of Strong and James Hennessey selected a site for a courthouse and trading post on the Scioto River between what are now Superior Heights and Defiance Township. They named their new settlement after themselves, Defiance, Kansas. The first store opened there on July 8th, 1852. In 1860 defenseless settlers numbering only twenty-four had to flee one night when Union troops burned part of their village during the American Civil War (the Battle of Perryville). Afterward they built a new settlement on the same site which they named Fortdefenixed; but by 1870 this had become abandoned as well due to Indians taking over most of the area except for some farming operations conducted by white heirs who continued to live there until 1923 when it became part of Medina County. In 1892 Fenton Manufacturing Company founded here by General Electric founder George Westinghouse made electric lamps that were introduced into general use throughout America during 1893-1894 season thanks to inventor Thomas Edison’s work with his filament wire technology developed from early gaslights prototypes developed by French chemist Jean-Baptiste–Jacques Conte at his laboratory near Paris also known as L’Atomisation or “The Atomization” project where he used up all available carbon dioxide gas supplies (a precursor of modern air conditioning) creating vacuum tubes from natural gaslightbulbs becoming world leaders achieving 100% light output while using 1/3 less energy than candles using small Goldstein candlesticks manufactured at Pemberton Glassworks company located within two blocks radius bounded north by Third Street east by Federal Street southwest along Second Street intersecting State Route 515 just across State Route 12 next door to Dayton Gardens apartment complex now home to Dayton Museum Of Art
Defiance was founded in 1792 by Ohio pioneers George Washington and Major General James Wilkinson. The town was named for the defiance of British forces during the American Revolution. The first store, a blacksmith shop, was established in 1793. In 1800, the town had a population of about 25 people. It grew rapidly thanks to its location on the frontier and its role as a stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1814, Defiance became part of Indian Territory and lost its status as a town when it was surrendered to United States troops.
