Defiance is a town in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The first people to settle in Defiance were white Americans who came overland from Pennsylvania in 1795. They named their new community after George Washington, which they saw as a model of society and democracy. In 1814, the town was accepted into the United States as part of what became known as the Northwest Territory. On December 8, 1825, Defiance became a city when it was chosen by Cuyahoga County commissioners as the seat for Trumbull Township. In 1901, volunteer firefighters began fighting wildfires in neighboring Summit County; many residents donated food and water to put out the fires. As one of America's pioneer communities during this time period, Defiance played an important role in helping develop firefighting techniques and infrastructure across North America. In 1954-1955, Defiance hosted the Outdoor Fair which showcased American Agricultural Show products from around the country and Europe. The fairgrounds still operate today as part of downtown Defiance's visitor attractions complex called "The Fair Grounds." Today there are many small businesses and restaurants that line Main Street between Euclid Avenue and Greenfield Road with a variety of stores catering to all walks of life including farmers markets Tuesdays through Saturdays along with several local boutiques/clothing stores open daily throughout summer months (closed Thanksgiving). Downtown has been revitalized with new construction going on year-round including: an indoor arena/Golf Course(opened late 2009), two large movie theaters (one showing independent movies only) One bank (anchored against Third Street), several high-end restaurants including steakhouse chains like Dominos Pizza & Doner Kebabs etc., more than 30 small shops servicing everything from home improvement supplies to pet supplies plus numerous bars/nightlife options such as Hard Rock Café & Lighthouse Lounge where live music concerts are sometimes held during specific weeks or events like Oktoberfest!

In Defiance, Ohio, on July 4, 1813 the United States of America was born from a group of patriots who fought for independence from Great Britain. The town had been founded by Joshua Barney in 1792 as a post office and trading center on the east bank of the Scioto River. In 1814, Defiance became part of the Harrison County seat after it was granted to that location by Governor George Brown. The population soon grew to over 500 residents and in 1821 they voted to incorporate as a township. That same year they elected their first treasurer, Amos H. Smith. The community flourished during its early years but faced numerous challenges including flooding which destroyed many homes and businesses; disease; Indian raids; and skirmishes with Native Americans. In 1862Defiance was burned down by Native American raiders who destroyed most of the town’s buildings and belongings. Despite this setback, the community continued to thrive until shortly before its final destruction in 1865 due to an accidental fire caused by members of a local Temperance Society meeting

In 1812, after the United States acquired Oregon from Great Britain, Washington Territory was created and Defiance became one of its first settlements. The town was founded on a small parcel of land that had been donated by James Fenton in 1811. He and his friends developed the settlement into a small town with legal rights to own land in the territory. By 1815, the population of Defiance had grown to around 100 people and it began to develop into a major transportation hub for settlers in the Northwest Territory. In 1817, Defiance voted to become an incorporated community under state law. The incorporation gaveDefiance special rights and responsibilities within the new society, which helped it grow quickly as a commercial center. By 1830,Defiance had reached its peak as a local economic powerhouse and boasted a population of over 500 people. However, during the 1830s large-scaleamine hit Ohio hard and many residents fled to Kansas or other states in search of food supplies. By 1840, only 30% ofDefiance's original population remained living there while most residents moved away or left for new opportunities in Illinois or Missouri. By 1850,DEFIANCE had decreased its population again due to heavy wagon traffic leading upriver for gold strikes at Blackwell’s Creek near Licking River (today’s Licking County). Many residents decided not to return following what seemed like harsh conditions back then – poor soil quality combined with low wages made life difficult even for those who did stay."
