In 1975, the company relocated again to its current location on Delaware Avenue. The Defiance Coffee Company continues to serve delicious coffee every day of the week.
Defiance, Ohio is a small town in the central region of Ohio. It is bordered by Trumbull County to the west and east, and Erie County to the north. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. The name of the community comes from General George Washington's decision not to stand against British forces during the French and Indian War. The first settlers in Defiance were Methodists who arrived in 1800. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Scioto River. In 1824, defenseless farmers banded together to resist British troops under Colonel John Starkweather while they burned their crops and stole livestock near Defiance. This event is considered one of America's earliest acts of self-defense. In 1847, General David Twiggs moved his military headquarters from Philadelphia todefiance after being appointed commander in chief by President James K Polk. Twiggs saw that there was no real threat from Indians or other enemies within his borders, but he decided that American citizens needed protection from marauding Tories. He ordered 10 militia companies into operation and called out help from surrounding communities for two months until he had enough soldiers available to protect Defiance without needing assistance from Trumbull County or Erie County. The townspeople founded their own school in 1848 which became an important part of local education system until it closed its doors in 1970 due to budget cuts by then-Mayor Bob Neyman Sr.. A new school opened its doors in 1984 after years of planning by then-Town Clerk Kathy Hickey and current Town Manager Rick Lantzner. The new school offers kindergarten through 12th grade classes as well as adult classes for people living outside of Defiance proper; this program is known as "No Child Left Behind."
