From the days when Commodore George Dewey sailed into the city to become the first US Naval Officer to serve as Mayor of Dayton, there have been countless opportunities for sailors and civilians to interact and share common interests. In 2009, Admiral Rickover presented the USS Constitution Museum with a gift from the navy. The donation was made in memory of Rear Admiral Samuel Eliot Morison, who had served as Commandant of Cadets at Miami University (OH) before becoming Commanding General of United States Naval Forces Europe. Since then, numerous other gifts have been given to various organizations or businesses within the city by sailors or civilians associated with either navy unit stationed here or those who have served on USS Constitution or other navy vessels based here. Some notable examples include: a plaque honoring retired Chief Warrant Officer 2 John Kappen; a set of mugshots taken of Sailors Arrested for Cannabis Use during Prohibition; a collection of memorabilia documenting naval engagements against Japan during World War II such as ship models and uniforms; and an honorary degree from Miami University’s Department of History.
The Navy deployed a gift to the people of Guam this past Christmas. The gift was two submarines, one American and one Japanese, both brand new and in great condition. This is an amazing gesture by the Government of Guam in order to show that they are always there for their citizens. It also shows how much the military community cares about their safety and well-being. The Submarine Gift Package included items such as uniforms, hats, and rations for the submarines. This was a perfect way to show support for the local military community while keeping them informed of events in Guam.

Dayton, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Franklin County. It was founded on April 12, 1796 by James Dayton and his brother John as a meeting place for the first territorial government of what would become the United States. The city served as an important transportation hub during the American Revolution and was known for its quality white flour mills, which remain some of the most prominent in America today. In 1830, Dayton became one of the thirty-six townships (and then counties) created from part of Franklin County. As such, it played a significant role in early settlement and development of Western Ohio. The City of Dayton was incorporated on November 3, 1836, becoming one of the first cities in Ohio to be self-governing. In 1936, Dayton became an act within the United States Congress named after General George Washington to commemorate his life and achievements as commander-in-chief during both World War I and World War II.
Dayton was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Dayton and Jesse Owens. The city became a manufacturing center after the United States purchased land from the Muhlenberg family in 1802. The area around Dayton was rich with coal and iron deposits, which made it an ideal location for early industrialization. In 1903, the Dayton Manufacturing Company was founded to produce munitions and other goods for World War I. In 1927, Dayton opened its first television station. By 1950, the city had reached its peak as a manufacturing center with over 1,000 businesses operating in downtown and nine districts surrounding it. However, during the 1960s and 1970s, Dayton experienced significant economic decline due to a number of factors including mergers and acquisitions among its largest companies. In 1990, however, Dayton merged with neighboring Columbus to form the current metropolitan area.
