Marines have been deployed to every corner of the world for centuries, and in Dayton, Ohio they have a long tradition of providing service to their country. The Marine Corps was founded in 1866 in Cincinnati, Ohio and has since fought in every major conflict throughout history. In Dayton, Marines provide security at local events and maintain vital aspects of our community such as public safety. They are also known for their expertise in naval warfare and amphibious assault operations. The Marine Corps presence in Dayton dates back to World War I when the Marines were first brought here as part of occupation forces. From 1918-1921 the Marines operated out of Camp Humphreys on the Scioto River. After the war ended, Marines returned to Dayton until 1922 when they moved into Camp Humphreys themselves. During this time they formed detachments called "batallions" which served with distinction both during World War II (1942-1945) and Korean War (1950-1953). In 1951 Camp Humphreys was closed down due to budget cuts but continued being used by the Marine Corps Reserve until 1992 when it was decommissioned permanently. The last detachment left town on October 1st, 1992 reports say that there were only about 50 marines remaining stationed here today. In honor of its long history in Dayton, the Marine Corps has erected a plaque located at 15 Broad Ripple Rd which reads: "Erected by order of Commandant JF Carney Jr., Seventh Marine Regiment MC November 13th 1978." It is an interesting coincidence that this plaque was dedicated just one year after Commodore John F Carney's death which occurred on October 12th 1977 while he was commanding officer of Third Battalion Eighth Marines (7th MEF). This event marks another milestone for Dayton as it hosts one of America's oldest military installations!

Dayton is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Greene County. The population was 24,752 at the 2010 census, making it the 11th-largest city in Ohio. Dayton is located on the southern edge of Montgomery County and is bordered by Butler to the north, Hamilton to the east, Clinton Township to the south and Medina County to the west. The first permanent settler in what became Dayton was Nicholas DeBolt in 1792. The area that would become Dayton was originally part of Trumbull County. In 1803, Dayton became part of newly formed Monroe County because its land border with Hamilton Township did not coincide with that town's line. The original site for what would become Dayton was near present-day Miamisburg. In 1825, John Richardson founded Richardson’s Mills on current day Licking River Boulevard in central Dayton as one of several mills he started up around this time in response to increasing demand for cotton from American Indian traders and farmers along the Great Lakes region following technological advancements brought about by Andrew Jackson’s presidency. That same year also saw construction begin on what would become First National Bank (now Wells Fargo). The city grew rapidly during the mid 1800s due largely to heavy investment by local entrepreneurs into transportation infrastructure including an early form of streetcars called "Trolley cars" which ran between downtown and various neighborhoods outlying into radial streets; as well as practical innovations like turnpikes and Erie Canal boats which allowed goods and passengers traveling through Dayton to reach Cincinnati much more easily than before thanks to new routing opportunities opened up during construction of both routes. It wasn't until after Christopher Columbus came ashore near modern day Portsmouth on July 12th, 1492 while exploring Greater Miami Vice Co., that Europeans began their quest for discovery across America's northwest coast - something that many believed could only happen after powerful storms or natural disasters destroyed indigenous civilizations across Northwestern America (such as those found at Cleveland). Dayton, Ohio is located in the U.S. state of Ohio and is part of the Dayton–Marion area. The city was founded on April 12, 1795 by General James Wilkinson as a small trading post on the Scioto River. It became an important transportation center during the establishment of the United States and its first president, George Washington, traveled to Dayton twice to make speeches. In 1847, Dayton was renamed in honor of General John Custer when he was killed in action at Little Bighorn during the Mexican-American War. The city experienced significant growth following World War II with the construction of several large industries. After years of decline, Dayton has seen recent revitalization with a focus on arts and culture and new development including a major downtown redevelopment project that includes a new theater, shopping mall, and residential areas. The history of Dayton begins with its founding by General James Wilkinson on April 12th 1795 as a small trading post on the Scioto River near what is now downtown Cincinnati (then known as Paintersville). The post served as an interchange for traders traveling between Great Britain and America due to its location close to both points. The town rapidly grew after it was established and soon gained notoriety for being one of America's most active commercial centers due to its tightknit community Bondsmen who cooperated together to provide goods and services needed by their neighbors which helped developed into what is know today as "the community spirit." By 1800, Dayton had grown so large that it required passage through customs checkpoints along the way from British colonies such as Pennsylvania because it could not handle all the traffic! In 1817, local merchants formed a company called The Trustees for Divine Charity which purchased land east of Main Street from Native American leaders in order to create an open space that would be used for public education purposes (today's campus of Miami University). This donation set off years-long construction which included building two roads – One linking Downtown Dayton with Northampton County downriver while another linked Southport Township with East Liverpool Township upriver – making it one of America's first urban neighborhoods! With these road improvements came further development including sawmills, grist mills & other factories alongside homes & businesses which continues until this day! While early residents were busy developing their town they also made sure their children received excellent education so that they would have access to opportunities like those enjoyed by today’s citizens. On October 15th 1824 Revolutions Day®, Mr., Ayer vs McIntosh School District No 2 v Hamilton et al (a school case) took place in front of City Hall where Judge David S White tried three cases related specifically To Education; viz: 1) That Of Mr.(Ayer), impugning his character before Aldermen; 2) That Of Mrs.( McIntosh), challenging her right To vote; 3) Boston Academy v Cook et al concerning Admission And Expenses Thereon! In 1830/31 there were six teachers working at Henry Schoolhouse in Downtown Dayton teaching grades K-4thindery Curriculum Version 1st Edition® based upon Drs Westfall’s American System Of Instruction For Girls& Boys™ from Philadelphia & Company’s Reports For 1840 What did this mean?…..It meant that boys could stay home alone while girls went back-to-school….it also allowed parents more time off work…..thus paving the way for later educational developments such as night classes or academies

The city was named for General George Washington, who had visited the area during his military campaigns in the Northwest Territory. Dayton became a general town in 1801, and it became the capital of Ohio in 1802. In 1803, Dayton made its first census and found that it had a population of only 514 people. However, by 1840, Dayton's population had grown to over 10,000 people. In 1846, Dayton became the capital of Ohio again after Columbus moved to that location from Cincinnati. The city experienced rapid growth during the 19th century thanks to its location as an agricultural center and its role as the commercial hub of Ohio.
