Conneaut is a small town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is located on the Conneaut River and it has a primary education and shopping district. The land that makes up Conneaut was first settled by Europeans in 1788 as part of the Northwest Territory established by George Washington after he took control of Pennsylvania from Royal Governor John Forbes. In 1801, Conneaut became a village under the name of Athens. On March 14, 1803, Athens merged with Conneaut to form one municipality under the name of Conneaut. On January 1, 1907, Athens merged with other villages in Cuyahoga County to create The Village of Euclid which had a population of 5,854 people when it formed its first election that year. On November 3rd deeded land comprising what would become much of Euclid Township to The Village for $2 per acre (1 real estate lot = $50). This donation exempted Euclid from paying taxes on this land until 2038; however no proof exists that this ever happened. In 1932-1933 there were several fires in and around the village destroying many homes including those built before 1902 or earlier; these fires are sometimes referred to as "The Great Fire". These fires have been wrongly blamed on an economic downturn during that time and also some people feel they may have been started intentionally by some residents who felt they could not compete against larger local communities due to their smaller size relative to others; however there is no definitive evidence either way and everyone has their own opinions about this matter. In 1951-1952 two more very large fires burned within close proximity to downtown Euclid: one destroyed nearly three acres (100 m²) worth of buildings within two blocks (300 m²) radius around Main Street between Seventh Avenue and Eighteenth Avenue North while another burned almost two acres (100 m²) within two blocks (300 m²) radius around Third Street eastbound between Second Avenue South and First Avenue North; both fires remain unsolved today despite numerous leads from law enforcement officials over many years since then.

The Conneaut community was founded in 1836 by John and Jane Conneaut. It grew quickly, with a population of about 150 in 1840. The first school was built in 1844. By 1860, the community had a library, Protestant church, store, and two blacksmiths. In 1868, the community erected its first public house. The townspeople also began to build a few homes themselves. In 1870, the town plat was filed and the name "Conneaut" changed to "Muncie". In 1872-1873, construction began on what is now known as Main Street (later renamed College Avenue). The town's first post office opened in 1874. In 1878-1879, various businesses were started within the town including a millinery shop and an ice cream parlor called 'The Creamery'. A hotel called 'The White House' was built between 1880-1881; it is still standing today and has been restored several times. In 1892-1893, Conneaut voters approved annexation by Muncie; this made Muncie the new official city government for Conneaut. In 1896-1901, another school building (the old one being destroyed) was constructed within the limits of Conneaut; it served as both the local high school from 1896 until 1907 when Muncie became fully integrated into Indiana University Bloomington campus shadowing vice versa during that time period
