The history of the Ohio Air National Guard's Deployed Gift Program began in 1941, with the activation of the 1st Bombardment Wing at Wright-Patterson AFB. The wing was tasked with carrying out strategic bombing raids on Japan, and as such, deployed gift baskets to soldiers and civilians living in Japan. This program continued intermittently through World War II, but reached its peak during the Korean War when more than 2,500 military personnel and civilians received gifts from the Ohio Air National Guard. During the Vietnam War, gift programs were established in Columbus and Cincinnati as part of Operation Varsity Platoon. These programs allowed service members and their families to receive unique items such as clothing, books, appliances or toys. Today's stationed gift program is a legacy ofOperation Varsity Platoon which helped countless people around the world feel like they mattered.

In 1814, the Ohio Confederation of Republican Societies was founded in Columbus. The organization then organized a gift history to remember and celebrate the contributions of military officers and their families who served in the Union army during the American Civil War.

The city was founded by George Washington on July 12, 1792 as the capital of the United States. Columbus became an American port when it was developed as a trade center between Native Americans and European traders. In 1814, during the War of 1812, Columbus was burned to the ground by British forces after they took over the city from American forces. After being rebuilt, Columbus became a major commercial and industrial center in Northeast Ohio during the 19th century. It lost its importance after World War II as manufacturing shifted to nearby Cleveland and other cities. The city has seen some recent revival since 2000 with efforts to increase tourism and development around its downtown district.

Columbus, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that was named for Christopher Columbus in 1492. The town has been located on the Scioto River since 1795 and is now part of the Dayton metropolitan area. Settled by Native Americans, it became an American territory in 1813 and was organized as a city in 1837. As of the 2010 census, its population was 9,671. The first European to set foot on what is now Ohio soil were Italian explorers Giovanni da Verrazzano and his crew in 1540–41 while exploring what is today Pennsylvania's Delaware Peninsula; they landed at present-day Sandusky Bay on September 7, 1540. However, this event did not lead to permanent settlement there because Native Americans had inhabited the region for centuries before that point. In 1795, British forces led by Colonel George Washington burned down the village of Hayti near present-day Cincinnati after their victory over France during the French and Indian War; this destroyed all evidence of indigenous habitation and trade here so no one could claim ownership over land subsequent to that time period. In 1813, President James K. Polk issued Executive Order No., 10591 (February 5), which created the United States Territory of Upper Canada from parts of New York and Michigan Territory west of Lake Erie; including much older settlements such as Muskegon Heights (now Muskegon Heights Township) founded by French traders in 1688 along with Ottawa County (-now Ottawa County - east side), Westmoreland County (-now Defiance County), Knox County (-then Knox Township south side), Mahoning Valley (-west side)and Shiawassee Valley (-north side). This order marked America's first official arrival into World War I due to Britain's entry into war against Germany two months earlier on April 6th – just prior to Upper Canada becoming a territorial division within America under new rules established under Section 3(a) of Executive Order No., 10636 (March 20). On November 30, 1827,[1] General Anthony Wayne arrived at Point Pleasant Beach on Long Island Sound after leading an army through central Ohio during the Battle of Fallen Timbers against Tecumseh’s League forces led by Shawnee Chief Pontiac; he eventually reached Toledo newsroom where he reported having successfully crossed Lake Erie into Canada successfully breaking out from Detroit captivity[2][3] thus endangering British operations further southeast across Ontario—the final major battle between American forces and Tecumseh’s confederacy before his death three days later/just outside Cleveland[4][5]. This event was also significant because General Wayne acted as acting commander-in-chief for Lieutenant Colonel John Fenton who had commandeered Presque Isle Barracks surrendering military supplies yielding intelligence about Tecumseh’s remaining followers northwestward towards Battle Creek Falls location known then only as “the Great Lakes Area”—thus fulfilling a treaty made between George Washington & Tecumseh wherein both parties assured each other mutual destruction if one party should ever attack or capture any other.[6][7] This victory allowed Major General Simon Fraser [8] ashore from HMS Victory off Cuyahoga Harbor with 1,200 Canadian militiamen joining him within 24 hours upon landing following reconnaissance flights flown above open water surveys taken throughout inland Miami county beginning late October preceding deployment date low tide approximately October 25th complete with aircraft carrier USS Constitution underway providing cover support making possible successful crossings resulting in Treaty Of Greenville being signed September 8th 1800 giving most eastern portion Indian country ceded +/- long term land rights granted backstops until recently finalized treaties included purchase agreement between US government & Six Nations Nation tribe
