The Cleveland Army National Guard was organized on July 4, 1900 as the Cleveland Volunteer Infantry. The unit was redesignated the Cleveland Artillery on November 1, 1912. The artillery unit became part of the Ohio National Guard on September 16, 1933. On February 15, 1938, the Artillery Unit was reactivated and re-designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) of the Cleveland Municipal Militia. On January 2, 1945, Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) of the Cleveland Municipal Militia was re-designated as Headquarters and Service Company (HASC), Lima Air Reserve Base Wing No. 1 in recognition of its service to local citizens during World War II.
