It is part of the Akron–Canton, Ohio Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cleveland Heights is one of two cities in Ohio that are both considered "High-Tech Markets". The first people to live in what is now Cleveland Heights were Native Americans who hunted and gathered wild plants and animals near present day Quicken Loans Arena and Lake Erie. They built their homes from logs found on the banks of the Cuyahoga River. The first white man to live in what became Cleveland Heights was Nicholas Sparks who settled there around 1800. He founded Sparks Brothers Brewery which still exists today as Oneonta Brewing Company. In 1836, John Dennison decided to move his family from Indiana and homesteaded land he had bought along the Cuyahoga River north of downtown Cleveland with hopes of creating a new town center for both his business interests and residents who wanted easy access to transportation, education, commerce and entertainment opportunities that could only be found within a mile or two radius of each other. He named his new town after himself – Cleveland – an honor earned him by leading an Infamous Raid on Sandusky Indian Village (now Sandusky) during the Black Hawk War (1838). Dennison's vision for Cleveland survived into our time as it continues to be embodied by some of its most iconic buildings such as FirstMerit Bank Tower which overlooks downtown; The Q library; US Steel Tower which overlooks East Side Avenue; Euclid Hall which houses many local government offices; Hardee's restaurant; and more! Cleveland Heights is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 20,151 at the 2010 census. Cleveland Heights is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now makes up Cleveland Heights was first settled by Europeans in the early 1800s as part of what is now Lake Erie Township on the border of present-day Akron and Medina Counties. In 1837, parts of what are now Steuben and Geauga Townships were combined to form Cleveland Township. The name "Cleveland" was chosen because it sounded like "the hill country near Philadelphia." The township's first government was a Committee of Ten with nine residents appointed by Governor George Wright to manage local affairs. On July 1, 1838, Cleveland Heights became an incorporated village and remained so until 1907 when it became a town under the Constitution of Ohio Act No. 711 (). In 1902 when Euclid Avenue (now Superior Avenue) was built through downtown Cleveland and some other areas annexed into the city limits, much attention turned to developing this new section between Euclid Avenue and Superior Avenue which would be bisected by one street for commercial development and another for residential development. While plans were made for several large blocks along Superior Avenue between Euclid Boulevard (then Greenwood Street) and Grandview Boulevard (now Sibley Road), nothing came to fruition due to lack of money or interest from either party concerned about disrupting traffic flow or creating too manyDetroit-style buildings in an already busy downtown area. However, during World War II streetcar lines running down Superior Ave towards University Circle attracted soldiers stationed there before leaving for their bases all night long who would then return home for dinner at various restaurants along Superior Ave before going home again; this led to the nickname "Back Street Strip Mall". This strip mall eventually grew into one of downtown's most popular attractions with its wide variety of stores including Sears, JCPenney, Macy's Department Store etc., making it one of only a few American shopping districts still remaining today without major retail chains such as Kmart or Walmart having taken over since they arrived in America centuries earlier. On December 15th 1970 voters approved annexation by Detroit resulting in significant changes to municipal government including creation of Mayor offices as well as Borough Council members instead of Village President titles which continued until 1984 when voting ended pursuant to state law on Incorporation Densities matters being reclassified from "Village" status into "Township". As part2onsequent approximately 60% (of population) within township boundaries moved out during that period while less than 10% lived in those same boundaries within township status (owing largely to social isolation caused by lack thereof).
