The Cleveland Heights Air Force Base and its history date back to World War II. The base was one of the first in the United States, and it has been a part of the Ohio National Guard ever since. In 1945, the air force moved to Cleveland Heights from Whitewater Army Base. It initially occupied three buildings on State Street near Euclid Avenue. In 1946, two new wings were added onto the base – The 5th Wing and The 6th Wing. Since then, the Cleveland Heights Air Force Base has grown into one of America’s largest military facilities. It houses more than 18,000 military personnel and their families as well as 1,500 civilian employees. The base is also home to 12 DoD laboratories and a variety of research and development projects.

Cleveland Heights, Ohio is a town located in the U.S. state of Ohio and is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 54,984 at the 2010 census. The name "Cleveland Heights" was given to the community by General James K. Polk in 1892 when he visited the area while on his way to visit other settlements in central Ohio. The town began as a small farming village known as Newburgh Township, founded in 1811 by Nicholas Longmore and others from Bedfordshire, England. It became an incorporated settlement on July 1, 1824 when it merged with nearby foundrytown of Northfield into Cleveland Township. The township's first mayor was Ebenezer Higgins (1825-30). In 1830, Cleveland Heights underwent a rapid growth due to its location near the new Erie Canal and its close proximity to both American and British forces during the War of 1812. By 1840, there were over 100 residents living in Cleveland Heights proper and 2 surrounding townships; Newburgh Township had shrunk to just 10 residents and Caldwell Township had acquired land east of Elmira Road for future development including what would eventually become downtown Cleveland Heights. During that time period, many brickyards were built around what are now Euclid Avenue and Superior Street in downtown Cleveland Heights; these brickyards continue to produce bricks even today which are used for construction products such as bricks for sidewalks and driveways or window frames throughout much of Greater Cleveland
Airforce gift history dates back to the beginning of USAF involvement in World War II. In 1941, General George C. Marshall directed the Secretary of War to create a special air force for war production and expansion. The Air Force was activated on July 1, 1941 with its first contingent of Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses. During the early years of the war, gifts were few and far between asAAF units were deployed primarily through operational theaters such as North Africa and Europe. However, as hostilities increased in 1942-1943 and bomber raids became more common, commanders began to appreciate airmen's contributions to military victory. More than ever before, they desired to honor those who had given their lives for their country. Beginning in 1944, generals began recognizing members of the RAF Volunteer Reserve (RVF) which had served in Allied forces during World War II. These donations were often much appreciated by AF brass as these groups had been disbanded shortly after hostilities ended without receiving any meaningful recognition from their respective governments or militaries. In 1945 alone, AF Commander General Curtis LeMay recognized over 60 RCF personnel with formal awards including several Commanding Officers Medals (COMMs). The Cold War era quickly brought about a new appreciation for antique American military items among USAF officers and men alike. Beginning in 1947, AF Commanders authorized the donation of surplus weapons systems from DoD stockpiles across America into AFB inventory subject to approval by HQ USAF via email exchanges only - an unprecedented move at that time! This led to the birth of what is now known as "AFGateway" program which gifted nearly 50 vintage aircraft/vehicles from various sources across America into AFB inventory between 1949-1965 inclusive! Additionally, numerous pieces from LEFTOVERS arsenals throughout America were donated into AFB holdings during this period; many providing valuable aviation experience for our young pilots/bombardiers! Cleveland Heights is a city in the Cleveland-Akron metropolitan area, located on the east side of the Cuyahoga River. The population of Cleveland Heights was 905,538 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Greater Cleveland Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Cleveland Heights were Indian settlers who moved from Michigan during and after the American Revolutionary War. They built their homes on land that is now Sylvan Park and other areas around Euclid Avenue, between Superior and Hubbard Streets. In 1846, Ohio's first white Territorial Legislature met at Whatcom Hall in downtown Cleveland and passed a resolution stating that "a town be established hereon by lot" should be named for General James K. Polk because he had been instrumental in driving out British forces from Ohio during the war. The community became known as Polkville after his name was chosen as its provisional capital by Ohio legislators in 1847-48. When General John Stark (1786-1868) arrived from Delaware County, Pennsylvania with his army to help fight against Tecumseh's Indians near Mount Pleasant Township in 1813, he called upon residents of Polkville to contribute troops to help him quell the Native American uprising; they did so enthusiastically. On July 12, 1814, Deputy Sheriff George Ticknor shot at an unarmed Shawnee settler while trying to serve a warrant; Ticknor later pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to two years hard labor on Carlisle Island where he died of exposure eight weeks later (see also story). A plaque dedicated to George Ticknor can still be seen on one end of Sylvan Park Drive near East 180th Street (). In 1830s- 1840s many immigrants came from Eastern Europe via Steubenville/Canton Railroad Bridge over Cuyahoga River: Poles (27%, 1840), Slovaks (24%), Hungarians (12%), Germans (8%), Italian Americans (6%), Irish Americans (4%). Many German families intermarried with Polish families so that all six surnames are found among these groups today: Trump (born Trumpstein), Machinist(born Machiavelli), Schneider(born Schmid), Kearney(born Kearny), Pfeiffer(born Pfeifferbach), Wurster( born Wurster). Since 1890 many Jews have lived here too: Hungarian passengers arriving through Port Columbus Ferry landing at Houghton Mifflin Shipyard fetched high prices before pogroms broke out there following World War I; many left behind when Hungary joined Czechoslovakia; others immigrated here permanently once World War II started and faced anti-Semitic discrimination throughout their stay until it ended with Soviet Union's collapse. Many descendants still reside here today including Donald JTrump senior who founded Trump Tower; Ivanka Trump who cofounded Ivanko & Associates LLP.; Jared Kushner who cofounded Kushner Companies LLC.; Eric Finkenberg Jr., founder Palantir Technologies Incorporated
