Clayton, Ohio is a city of over 100,000 people located in the southeastern corner of Ohio on the Maumee River. The city was founded in 1825 by and named for General John Clayton. The first coffeehouses were established in the early 1800s and Clayton became a center for coffee culture in the mid-19th century. Coffee houses served as social venues where they entertained customers with their eccentricities and interesting stories. In 1865, General James A. Garfield purchased land within the city limits and began to build what would become known as Garfield Park. The park originally consisted of only a small plot of land on which he built a summer house. Over time, however, General Garfield developed additional acreage within the park and designed it into an extensive gardens that still comprise part of today's Garfield Park. By 1870, Clayton had become one of the most important centers for coffee roasting in the United States. As coffee became more popular throughout America, so too did its popularity in Clayton; during this time period, many prominent businessmen and entrepreneurs came to town to learn about this unique genre of coffee service. In 1914, Colonel Edward Ralston founded Ralston's Coffee House on State Street in downtown Clayton; this business would remain operational until 1982 when it was acquired by Starbucks Corporation. This particular establishment played an important role in developing American café culture as well as introducing Americans to various types of espresso drinks; it is also documented that Colonel Ralston was instrumental in helping to create Italian-American cuisine here at home through his restaurant endeavors. Throughout its history, Ralston's Coffee House has been a major player in promoting local commerce and cultural activities within its community; it has even been awarded multiple prestigious awards including being listed on "The New York Times" list of "the 50 Best Restaurants In America". Today, there are several dozen businesses operating within Downtown Clayton thanks to its vibrant commercial district which features several high-end restaurants including Enoteca 1919 (formerly called Roosevelt Palace), Café Bottega (now Cafe Nero), Pizzeria L'Aquila (now Pizzeria Italia), Starbucks flagship store - now closed - Regency Ballroom & Lounge - and numerous live music performances throughout each day from large festivals such as Stampede Days events or Chicago Shakespeare Theater productions!

The city was founded by two brothers named James and John Clayton. They were partners in the via trade company that operated out of what is now downtown Clayton. In 1825 they also established what would become the first grocery store in downtown Clayton when they opened the store at 5th and Elm Streets. Clayton has seen many changes over its history including being an agricultural center during the early years of this country; becoming one of America's most industrial cities during World War II with heavy manufacturing ties to munitions factories; experiencing rapid growth during the late 20th century as it became an importantresidential community for workers drawn to new industry within commuting distance from central Dayton; and continuing to experience rapid growth through 2000 when it gained official status as a city

Clayton, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Butler County. The population was 27,678 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1801 by General David Wilkinson as an agricultural village on the Scioto River near what is now Cleveland, and it became a town in 1827. Clayton was named for General Wilkinson's son-in-law, John Clayton. The area that makes up Clayton today was first settled by families from Pennsylvania in the early 1800s, primarily because there were no available farming land east of the Allegheny Mountains. In 1801, David Wilkinson purchased 640 acres (2 km2) along the Scioto River from James White and others to establish a new settlement called "Clayton". The townspeople built their first homes using logs brought overland from Pennsylvania. By 1827, they had erected twelve buildings including a courthouse and jail which stood until 1881 when it burned down. The growth of Cleveland caused problems for Claytnam since it lay adjacent to what was then one of the most important transportation routes in America – route #1 ran through downtown Cleveland and terminated at warehousing facilities onuffs next to Lake Erie – making Claytnam difficult to develop economically without trade with Cleveland or other nearby cities. In 1851, Congress passed legislation creating Butler County as part of Indiana Territory; this provided for local government within Butler County rather than having it governed by Indiana authorities within Butler County itself as had been done hitherto. This change helped to ensure that Claytnam would continue to grow despite competition from neighboring towns such as Cuyahoga Falls and Euclid Heights which became independent municipalities during this time period. With increased access to resources throughout its boundaries via Interstate 75 (now I-77), Clayton has become an increasingly popular place for residents seeking opportunities outside of Greater Cleveland while still affording easy access to all that the city hasto offer including excellent education institutions such as Case Western Reserve University and community colleges like Lorain College/University Park). Today, Claytnam is home to several major research universities as well as a number of Fortune 500 companies who have located their headquarters here over time including Unilever plc., Intel Corporation and Procter & Gamble Company among many others Beginning in 1907 when Orson Welles guest lectured on theories about energy production at Lorain College’s auditorium alongside William Thomson Scripps III*, Clayton experienced rapid growth due largely to advertisements featuring local entrepreneurs touting products made locally such as oil wells drilled by local farmers under contract with Standard Oil Company Ltd.* However, World War I quickly derailed these plans with American soldiers returning home exhausted instead of supplying needed munitions overseas; however some prosperity returned during Prohibition with businesses like Wernher Goering’s Anheuser Busch Brewery opening up shop here* After repudiating Prohibitionism in 1923 following passage of Amendment No 2 legalizing drinking alcohol nationwide*, business activity stalled again until into the Great Depression when recreationaldrug use really took off†(* See: “How One Community Ended Up Supplying Half Of America”). In 1857, Clayton became part of the newly founded city of Dayton. The population of Clayton peaked at around 25,000 in 1920 and has slowly declined since then.
