The Air Force has been in existence since World War II and has played a significant role in the history of the United States. The Air Force is one of the largest and most diverse organizations in the United States, with over 1,000,000 active members. This tradition began in 1967 when then-Lt. Gen. John Hines ordered all service members to send him inexpensive presents on Christmas Day. The United States Air Force has a long and rich history of giving back to the community. In 2015, the USAF announced the establishment of the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in Colorado Springs, CO. AFIT is a two-year institution that will offer bachelor’s degrees in engineering and technology disciplines as well as professional certificates and diplomas in such fields as aviation management, information systems security, aircraft programming and design. The U.S. Air Force also established an endowed professorship at AFIT in 2016 named for Lt. General Curtis LeMay Jr., who was instrumental in creating and leading America’s first military air forces during World War II. Since its inception, AFIT has given back to society through scholarships, student programs and employee donations. For example, since its establishment, AFIT has awarded more than $25 million in scholarships statewide to students from across Colorado Springs area colleges and universities. The Clayton Air National Guard Museum is a museum located in Clayton, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1961 and is the only active air force museum in the state of Ohio. The museum is open to the public from 10am to 4pm Monday through Saturday, and 10am to 3pm on Sundays.
Clayton, Ohio is a city in the northwestern part of the state of Ohio. The population was 25,865 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Butler County. It is located on the edge of the Mahoning Valley, bordered by State Route 271 to the north and east, and by Huron County to the south. Clayton was founded in 1801 as a village called Clayton Heights. The first settler in what is now Clayton was James Caldwell, who arrived in 1798. In 1801, an act of Congress designated Clifford Township as part of Jennings Township. When that township was dissolved into Butler County in 1827, Clayton became its own town. The first store built in Clayton was erected on Main Street about 1830 by George Waddell. A post office was established here with Waddell as its first holder on October 15, 1830. By 1840, there were six stores operating in Clayton with a population of about 100 people. A hotel and tavern were built around this time on Cherry Street between Third and Fourth Streets (now First Avenue). In 1851 Union Pacific Railroad reached Clayton from Akron via route number 3 (now Interstate 71). This opened up new business opportunities for ClayTON residents; however, transportation options remained inadequate until automobiles arrived two decades later when US 66 became available from Cleveland through present day Troy-Massillon Road Bridge over Maumee River

In 1945, the USAF was created as a separate service within the United States military. The USAF is responsible for flying more than 60% of all American combat aircraft and provides air power across America and around the world. Today, the USAF operates over 200 different types of planes and helicopters, making it one of the largest air forces in the world. Throughout its history, the USAF has given many unique gifts to civilians and soldiers alike. One of these gifts was an innovative way to transport troops, called C-130 Hercules transports. This plane allowed for troop movements with high speed and efficiency, which made Operation Desert Storm much easier for both sides. Another gift from the USAF was a jet engine development program known as Project Mercury. This project helped develop jet engines that could be used in fighters and bombers. These engines were eventually put into use during World War II and later became standard on American fighter aircraft. Today, jets make up an important part of US Air Force doctrine, providing overwhelming firepower when needed most.

Clayton, Ohio is a small town in southern Ohio. The population was 8,719 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Mahoning County. The first settlers in what is now Clayton were farmers who came overland from Kentucky in 1811. They named their community after General James Hays Clay, a hero of the Mexican-American War and an early leader of the United States Army. The town began to develop as a rural community around Methodist churches and schools, which remain one of its most important attractions today. In 1916, Clayton became part of the new state of Ohio and lost its independent character. But because it has been part of Mahoning County since 1827, it has always had close ties with its surrounding communities and counties. This strategic location made Clayton an attractive place for businesses and residents to locate during the economic boom that followed World War II. Today, Clayton remains a vibrant community with active businesses and a strong cultural presence - making it one of the most popular places to live in Mahoning County.
Clayton was founded by James Clayton in 1797. The city is named after him. In 1801, it became a county seat of Holmes County. It was moved to its current location in 1827.
