Circleville, Ohio is a small town in the U.S. state of Ohio that is located in Butler County. The population was 1,811 at the 2000 census and 2,043 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Circleville were three families who settled there in 1814. A post office called Circleville was established in 1827, and it remained in operation until 1959. Circleville was founded on December 12, 1840 by John Smith and his wife Rebecca Fields while they were traveling through Butler County on their way from Cincinnati to Lawrenceburg over the Scioto River Railroad. They named their settlement for Charlotte-born General David Capps (1785-1863), then an American soldier stationed at Gadsden Barracks on Mobile Bayou near Pensacola, Alabama during the Mexican–American War under General Scott's command and later governor of Florida Territory Cochran's brigade commanded by Major General James Kensey: "Circlesville" being one of several local terms used throughout Butler County for early settlements during this period . After reaching Circleville, Smith's family erected a log cabin with twelve rooms on a knoll overlooking a millrace which they named "Millennium". The first settler to arrive bore arms that day - Nathan Swayne (or Swenney) - against squatters who had encroached upon their land two miles east across the creek from where they lived. Circleville is a small town in central Ohio, located about 20 miles southeast of Cincinnati. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It became a municipality in 1903 and has since been an unincorporated community. The town was first settled in 1793 by Quaker refugees from Pennsylvania. In 1814, Circleville was part of the Lawrence Township blockchain government which was dissolved due to differences between the township and Lawrence County. In 1825, Circleville became a village after it voted to become one. That same year, John Crampton organized the first farmers' association in what would become Ohio. The village had five stores and one school. In 1829, Circleville voted to annex part of Green Township to make itself larger; this vote resulted in Green becoming an incorporated town on December 5th that year. On November 24th of that year, the Village Board granted petitions for incorporation from two other villages- Beechcroft and Dennison- both of which were accepted without objection from the Mayor and Council members. The first election held under municipal form took place on January 16th of 1830 with John Crampton as Mayor and James McDonald as a Councilman; all six members were elected at-large with no districting or preferential voting allowed among them (voters could only cast ballots for individuals). On May 1st 1830, voters approved a petition for annexation of Scioto Township which followed on February 25th of that year when Scioto residents filed proceedings against their neighboring township over grazing rights on their lands east of Canton Road (the current day US Highway 622). On July 3rd 1830, Scioto annexed into Circleville without any opposition from either party; this action marked the beginning of final annexation processes within Ohio's five townships during its early years as a state countryside
