The history of shooters in Cincinnati, Ohio goes back to 1876 when the first shooting range opened its doors. The range was located on Elm Street and was known as the Elm Branch Shooting Club. It would later be renamed the Cincinnati Rifle and Pistol Club. The club met monthly to practice their firearms skills and shoot at local ponds. In 1907, the club moved to a new location on Redpath Avenue and continued to meet monthly. In 1928, the Cincinnati Rifle and Pistol Club merged with another rifle and pistol club, the Dayton Rifle and Pistol Club, in order to form the Dayton Rifle & Pistol Association (DRPA). This merger allowed for more organized competition among members of the DRPA. In 1934, DRPA changed its name to the Cincinnati Armory Firearms Association (CARA). CARA would continue to meet monthly until it closed in 1963 due to budget cuts. In 1978, CARA reopened under new management with a new facility on Walnut Street called Cara Place Shooting Range. CARA would remain open until it closed in 1984 due to financial troubles. AfterCara Place Shooting Range closed, CRPFA decided that they should start their ownrange which would become known as “The Ridgeâ€Range located at 5th avenue North next door to PNC Arena where they still meet monthly today
