Chillicothe, Ohio is home to the National Guard and its history goes back over 100 years. The first unit to be stationed in Chillicothe was the 3rd Regiment of Ohio Volunteer Infantry, which was organized on October 26, 1861. In 1865, the regiment left for Illinois and eventually surrendered at Springfield on April 11, 1865. The National Guard has been present in Chillicothe since it was founded. One of the most famous members of the National Guard is General George Armstrong Custer who fought in the Mexican-American War and later served as governor of Nebraska. Other well-known members include General James Fenton Chivington who helped lead a military campaign against Native Americans in 1856; General Oliver Hazard Perry who served as U.S. Secretary of State from 1849-1853; and Generals Philip Sheridan and John Pershing who led campaigns against Apache Indians during World War I. Today, there are over 2700 active duty National Guardsmen in Chillicothe! This number includes both full time soldiers and reservists working throughout the city or surrounding counties. Recent deployments have included service with CSTV (Community Support Team Service) efforts during natural disasters such as tornado outbreaks or floods; border security operations; anti-terrorism drills; Operation Neptune’s Spear – which saw American Special Forces engage Taliban forces in Afghanistan; and responses to Hurricane Irma earlier this year.

Chillicothe is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Ross County. The population was 21,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. Chillicothe was founded by John Chilicothe and his family in 1788 as a small trading post on the Scioto River. The town grew rapidly due to its location near two major canal systems: the Great Canal and Erie Canal, which connected Ohio with Pennsylvania and New York City; and the Miami, Erie, and Western Railway, which transported goods eastward from Cleveland through Chillicothe to points beyond. In 1814, Chillicothe became an incorporated village under the name of Athensburg after being chosen as temporary capital of Ohio during that state's first territorial government; it reverted to Chillicothe when Athensburg became a city in 1815. When Cincinnati became an organized city in 1827, Chillicothing lost its status as a village but kept its name until it changed again in 1840 when it merged with Adams Township to form Ross County. In 1920, Ross County merged with Lake County to form Ross-Lansing easyJet Regional Airport serving both counties administratively as well as physically from one airport site (just north of downtown Lansing). EasyJet began operating out of this airport starting in 2001 primarily for passenger travel within Michigan but has grown increasingly into providing services throughout most or all of northern Illinois including Chicago O'Hare International Airport and other Midwestern destinations served by RyanAir operated by United Airlines As part of Cass Corridor revitalization effort funded by State Road Authority (SRA), Park Place Mall opened adjacent to I-75/I-670 south exit on Decatur Street in 2009 across from McCormick Place Convention Center bringing over 1 million square feet (9300 m2)of retail space within walking distance for residents statewide without sacrificing livability or quality of life opportunities enjoyed by others located nearby such as downtown Detroit or Grand Rapids Michigan outside Of Interstate Highway System.. Most recently plans are underway for another large shopping center development adjacent to I-675/I-375 corridor just northwest side off ramp onto I-275 about 5 miles west & only minutes away from Ironton Heights community park perfect for retirement living developments skateboard parks recreation centers etc...
