After another year of deployments 1/5 Marines moved back ashore permanently and became Detachment 3/5 Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton Naval Air Station (NAVAIR) where they provided aerial refueling services for Navy ships operating off California coasts during Operation Neptune’s Spear which saw North Vietnamese forces invade South Vietnam.
