The Celina-Muncie Combined Statistical Area was statistical area for both cities until March 1, 2013 when Celina became its own entity. The history of Celina goes back to 1824 when it was founded as an agricultural village by Nicholas G. Selby. In 1892, the village name was changed to celina after General John Fenton's victory at Fallen Timbers over Native Americans. In 1907, the name again changed to celina after President Theodore Roosevelt's proclamation designating the area as a national forest. Celina is home to many businesses and organizations that have had a significant impact on their community and region over the years: The Celinaspeedways Speedway; Case Western Reserve University; CWRU’s School of Business Administration; Stroudsburg State University’s Department of History and Special Collections; Duquesne Center for Fine Arts; and Mount Carmel Baptist Church which was built in 1909 by J.W. Goodwin who donated land for the church along with $5,000 from his estate (the firstithing in what would become Celina). The most notable event that occurred in Celina during 2018 was the opening night of the new US Open Tennis Tournament which took place at USTA Hall of Fame Stadium on Saturday July 14th through Sunday July 15th. Celina, Ohio is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,592 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1853 and named for the Celina River. It became a city in 1907. The first settler in Celina was John Hickey. He platted the village of Celina on March 12, 1853 and named it for himself and his party which traveled from Rochester to survey the area around that day. On November 10 of that year, Hickey sold 5 acres (20,000 m2) of land south of Celina to Abram Hodgkinson. The village had a Post Office from May 25, 1854 to December 9, 1861; however it closed because no one wanted to live there because of the high cost of living and lack of public transportation options. In 1865–1866 James Ewing built a gristmills and wagon roundabout near present-day Elmira Road and Main Street; this mill became known as "the Hawley House". After years of operation by various owners including Hickey's grandson John S Hawkins – who operated it until its closure in 1954 – it came into ownership by Jethro Gibbs when he purchased 10 acres (40,000 m2) adjoining Hawkins' land on October 16th 1908 becoming "Gibbs Mill." From 1909 through 1925 he ran an insurance company out of the mill with offices located on Main Street between Elmira Road and Springdale Avenue. In 1922 he moved his company's operations downtown where they remain today as part of GEICO Corporation One hundred thirty-fifth anniversary celebration The following year saw yet another milestone when local businessman Wernher von Braun donated $10,000 along with two houses for use as dormitory/office space for young students attending Cleveland State Teachers College downriver (now Case Western Reserve University). Von Braun also made donations totaling $50 thousand over three years towards erection or construction at what is now Case Western Reserve University Chapel across from George Brown Stadium In 1929 celina received its own press code - PM - making it one step closer to becoming an acknowledged center for learning within Greater Cleveland In 1935 celinas annexation by Euclid resulted in establishment of City Hall which would serve as both civic center and community hall until finally being vacated after celinas incorporation into Euclid in 1938 On July 15th 1951 an act became effective annexing neighboring unincorporated Friendship Heights Township bringing all operating businesses under one roof with plans currently underway for redevelopment including opening up former grain elevator site into modern housing developments . Despite these efforts only 27% percent increase in population produced any tangible change culminating with disbanding city services & demolition/ reconstruction taking place once again beginning February 15th 1957 . This incarnation would last until February 14th 1979 when all remaining buildings were razed following purchase by new owner who renamed it "Celina Inc." Celina would be reborn once more as just "CelINA" upon reestablishment Of Local Government status back then!
