Celina, Ohio is a small town in the heart of the United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. Located on the border of Celina and Marietta counties, it is just outside of Dayton. The village's first settlers arrived in 1825 and built their homes around a post office and schoolhouse that they constructed from logs. In 1828, Celina came under control of Athens County and grew rapidly due to its location on the Scioto River. By 1830, residents had erected a frame courthouse and began to build other civic amenities such as a church and public square. In 1840, Celina became part of Butler County when it was created from parts of Marietta and Dayton counties. It continued to grow through the late 19th century thanks in part to its strategic location on two major transportation corridors – the Ohio Central Railroad (now Amtrak) and US 1 (now I-75). During this time, businesses such as A & W Brewery established themselves in Celina while farmers exported produce to eastern cities such as Cleveland or Cincinnati. Although celina declined during World War II due to decreased trade with downstream communities, it regained some hope after President Franklin D Roosevelt announced his New Deal programs in 1933. In 1945, CelINA incorporated as a town under state law following approval by an referendum vote by citizens. Celina, Ohio is a small town located in the same county as Dayton, Ohio. The population of Celina was 7,816 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton-Muncie-Weinberg Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Celina was George Patton who arrived in 1814. Other early settlers included James Hennessey and his family, John Trimble and his brother Nathaniel Trimble, John Getchell, and David Sibley. In 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant visited Celina on a visit to the area that led to his proclamation that all State Roads were open to all citizens for travel without payment of tolls or fees. In 1870, Wm Tatum set up a tannery and grocery store in what is now downtown Celina. A post office was established here in 1875 and remained in operation until 1913 when it was moved to Dayton. In 1916 the United States Postal Service merged with Cincinnati Post Company which had been formed eight years earlier by amalgamation of several independent post offices across central Ohio including those at Mansfield (1893), Tiffin (1910),and Celina (1915). At this time celinta also became part of the new consolidated city limits of Dayton proper although it continued to be listed as a separate municipality under state law until 1959 when it vested into city status effective January 1, 1960 under a new draft incorporation ordinance passed by the City Council on November 14th; however all municipal taxes still continued to be paid by residents within their respective municipalities even after becoming city employees! The current name given to our town honor’s Mrs Anna Selvin Patton who served as Mayor from 1951 through 1957; she also founded American Legion Post #1 which still meets monthly at 6pm inside Old Terminal Station downtown today!
