The United States Air Force deployed a gift of air force personnel to the Canton community in 1967. The gift was in commemoration of Ohio's entry into the United States during World War II. Since then, the Air Force has continued to send a contingent of military personnel to stay and contribute their time and services to the local community. In 2013, an event honoring this history was held at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. This event marked the 100th anniversary of Ohio's entry into World War I and statehood as a United States state. The air force donated four C-130H Globemaster III aircraft for transportation and recreation purposes within the Canton area. These aircraft were used for educational purposes by local elementary schools throughout town.

The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History is the history of how American airmen and Reservists have donated goods and services to their country during times of peace or war. The program began in 1947 when President Harry S. Truman signed Executive Order 9265 which created the Department of Defense’s War Relocation Authority. The WRA was charged with moved returning World War II veterans and their families out of the continental United States and into newly designated areas within Canada. From 1948-1954, the RAFC moved more than 2 million pounds of supplies, equipment, food, and other items to support US military installations worldwide. In 1958, the DOD established the USAF Command Store Program to provide uniformed members with a means to purchase items for use at home or in deployed locations. Since it inception, USAF Command Store has supported over 1 million military members and their families through purchases including personal supplies, tools, vehicles, clothing, bicycles, firewood and more. In addition recent deployments have included shipment of Hurricane Irma relief supplies as well as donations for flood relief efforts in Texas.

Canton, Ohio is a city in Central Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 763 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of the Greater Cincinnati metropolitan area, just north of Dayton, within the National Capital Park System. Canton has been inhabited by Native Americans for more than two hundred years and was once part of Delaware County. In 1814, it became part of the Northwest Territory when Ohio became a state. Its founders were primarily farmers and other landholders who bought or sold land east of Dayton and west of Columbus. Over time, Canton grew to become one of the most significant cities in central Ohio for its economy and culture. The first settler in what is now Canton was Nicholas Colleen from Ireland in 1796. He built a cabin on his farmstead near today's Main Street between Summit Avenue and Wells Road. The town began as a small village named Greenville on April 12, 1800, when twelve families united to form a town charter called Greenville-Canton Township (later renamed Lucas County). On May 1, 1811, during US President James Ketchum's visit to Toledo he changed hands three times during an auction at which land grants were given out to people who could provide evidence that they had paid off $5 per acre in taxes over five years In 1815–1816 residents voted to change their name from Greenville Township to Canton Township because it made more sensesounding than either Greenville or Delaware Township where they lived before The first post office opened in Canton on July 11, 1821 On January 1st 1861 John A Goodrich founded Goodrich & Company Auctioneers here with about $7 worth of goods goods being auctioned off such as lumber, saddles and horseshoes
