Cambridge, Ohio is a town in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, United States. The population was 11,751 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Cambridge were fur traders from Montreal in 1696. They named the community after a small village in Scotland called Cambridge. In 1795, the U.S. Congress passed a resolution naming Cambridge as a port on the Great Lakes for U.S.-owned vessels carrying goods between those lakes and Quebec City in Canada; this resolution was ratified by President George Washington on July 1, 1795. The town's name originated with its location on two hills overlooking Lake Erie: Harvard Hill and Northampton Hill (now known as Easton Hills). In 1801, Thorpe & Weed built a toll bridge over the Maumee River connecting Cambridge with Elyria and other towns south of Cleveland; this bridge became known as the "Thorpe-Weed Bridge". In 1813, James Kapp established an agricultural academy in Cambridge which later became Kapp University; this institution remains active today as one of several colleges and universities located in Cambridge zip code 44604. On December 5, 1825, Boston merchant John Gregg bought land east of downtown along what is now Elmira Road and developed it into what is now Gregg Heights neighbourhood; he named his new settlement after himself but changed its name to "Cambridge" when he moved there from Boston four years later. In 1830–31 Ezra Stiles served as speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives from Lexington Township near Akron; he was also notable for developing what are now Bedford Park neighbourhoods west of Interstate 45 near Euclid Avenue/northwest corner of Prospect Avenue/southwest corner of Dayton Avenue/east side of Research Drive within Howard University boundaries during that time frame The town attained official status on December 12, 1835 when it was created via act of Congress under Act No., 22 Stat., No., 2 (1835), relative to present site containing 4 square miles comprising parts Russellsboro Township north thereof bounded by Clinton road eastward thence northerly by Cedar Run thence due east to point where boundary line between Clinton township and Ross Township intersects said Rallsboro township line_. One Hundred thirty acres were acquired by purchase from Ebenezer Eliot for $1 per acre lot only’deed having been offered being payable quarterly accordingto plan then current containinffield above described ( exempted from taxation) . There being no inhabitants then appertaining thereto or since incorporation throoutthree years progress has been made without their consent tho' much interruption through lack thoir support . After remaining unoccupied for some time but being made available for occupancy by citizens therein Favorite Wm Popejoy came into possession having left his farm at Rocky Mount about three miles easterly thereof owning all tract situated upon said farm aforesaid including any buildings thereon subject thereto to pasturage & haying 10 cows & 10 hogs daily exclusive whilest owner resided at Rocky Mount making use onlyof tithes appertaining thereto ever since until sold October 25th instant

Cambridge, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Lucas County. The population was 25,883 at the 2010 census, making it the 11th most populous city in Ohio and one of its ten largest cities by population. It is also home to The University of Akron, one of America's oldest comprehensive universities and one of several flagship institutions in the Greater Cleveland region. The first European settlers in what would become Cambridge Township were three families from Pennsylvania who arrived in 1792. They named their new settlement after a college they had been studying at, Trinity College (now Princeton University). The town became an important transportation hub for central Ohio because it lay on both routes linking Cincinnati with Cleveland and Indianapolis with Toledo. During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Lexington Avenue served as a supply route for Union forces fighting near Lima during General Ulysses S Grant's Overland Campaigns into Kentucky; this led to the name being changed to "Grant Boulevard" after him. On October 14, 1865—the day after General Robert Ewell's surrender at Appomattox Court House—the eastern boundary between Fulton County proper and Cuyahoga County was moved eastward along Grant Boulevard about 0.4 miles (0 km), creating what is now downtown Cambridge. In 1902–1903 construction began on Main Street through downtown Cambridge from Summit Road south to State Street; this widened present-day Elmira Road into a two-lane street running parallel to Main until it crossed State Street just north of Bradley Hall dormitory atrium; then Elmira Road turned southeast and continued as a single lane bisecting Main until reaching Westin Hall dormitory athmosphere lobby before rejoining Main just beyond Eastman Library boundaries where it terminated abruptly northeast of Raymond Scott Arena tennis courts complex just outside Ofelia Park Neighborhoods development area boundaries On December 4, 1903 Wm Bendix founded Wm Bendix Dry Goods Company which operated out of his store on Center Street until 1907 when he sold his interest to Gorman Russel who continued operations under that name until 1912 when he merged with JH Macready’s Store Company (later JH MacReady et al.) which reopened as Wm Bendix Hardware Company late in 1912 under new ownership On July 1st 1915 President Woodrow Wilson signed Executive Order 9271 authorizing military training camps be established within limits set by Congress within 2 years with headquarters located in Columbus OH This order called for Camp Arlington located adjacent to present day Riverside Drive near corner First National Bank building on lower Broad Ripple Circle . Construction commenced immediately upon orders placed through Headquarters Military Intelligence Division . By September 1916 all training camps have been closed down except for Camp Lewis Detachment which remains active today as US Army Reserve camp . Camp Lewis Detachment eventually became known as Fort Knox Annexation camp due its close proximity To Fort Knox KY according its role playing unit during World War II era Cold War era defense against possible attack by Russian Federation
With the growth of industry and commerce in Cambridge, Ohio in the late 1800s, there was an increase in population. The city's first professional school, the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (AMSDA), was founded in 1892. In 1907, the city annexed what is now Medina County. The First World War brought about a large influx of refugees from Europe, which led to a rise in population and businesses within Cambridge. The war also saw the construction of new homes for soldiers and their families. In 1918, Mayor John Cavanaugh dedicated a public park on Sunday afternoon as "A Place where All may Play." This park remains one of the most popular areas in Cambridge today. In 1921, Cambridge annexed part of Columbiana County. This annexation marked the beginning of suburban development within the city limits; this growth led to an increase in traffic and pollution problems throughoutCambridge during this time period. In 1926, Mayor Harry Herron dedicated a new courthouse complex on State Street as "The Hub Of The City" to help with traffic congestion and improve downtown business conditions. In 1933-1934, Mayor George Fox considered moving the capital from Philadelphia to Cambridge but decided against it due to concerns over increased crime rates within Philly's CBD (central business district). Instead, he moved the government offices into what is now known as Fox Hall on Elm Street near Trinity University after much debate between himself and then-Councilmember James Hennigan about where to place them given Philadelphia's rapidly growing economy at that time.
