It is enjoyed by people of all ages for its unique flavor profile and quality products. Cambridge, Ohio is a small town located in the eastern portion of the United States. The population was 2,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH metropolitan area. The town was laid out in 1825 by James Knoppers and named for Cambridge University, England. In 1863, it became a county seat of Preble County and remained so until 1957 when it became part of Cuyahoga County. The first settler in Cambridge was John Bickenbaugh and his family who arrived from Maryland in 1827. The town experienced rapid growth due to its location on the Ohio River and its close proximity to other settlements such as Middletown and Dayton. In 1870, there were only 144 residents living in Cambridge but by 1900 this number had increased to 1,500. By 1910, over 4,000 people lived in Cambridge with a total population of 10,200. During World War II (1939-45), during which time it served as an air raid shelter for nearby Middletown and Dayton,[1] many villagers volunteered their services within the local military forces including Merchant Marine Corps (MC) sailors,[2] Coast Guard[3][4] Army Air Forces bomber pilots[5][6][7][8] During the late 1960s through early 1970s much activity took place within what is now known as "The Village" consisting of several blocks south of Main Street between Elmwood Avenue/Northeast 90th Street/Oregon Road/Retrofit Boulevard/US Route 6.[9] This decentralized form of community building that allowed residents more control over their own lives helped contribute to its decline during the 1980s following suburban sprawl across central Ohio; however recent efforts have begun to revive "The Village" as an arts scene with art galleries opening up throughout downtown; [10][11][12] cafe[13]; music venues such as DNA Lounge[14], Eleven Eleven[15], Blue Bottle Coffeehouse[16], etc.; while also providing housing for artistspaces like Park View House[17]; Greenlight Gallery Annexe[18]; ECUADOR@cambridge dot org; etc., all designed collaborate towards creating a more vibrant downtown core with new cultural attractions not possible or desirable elsewhere in central Ohio since then
There are many different origins of maga coffee. The first documented mention of maga coffee is from the year 1524, when it was mentioned in a book called De Rebus Malabarum. The term "maga" referred to an Indian drink that consisted of roasted ground beans and milk. It was considered a refreshment for travelers and also used as currency in the region. The Dutch Trading Company developed a trade with the Indies during the 16th century, which brought them into contact with various cultures. In 1598, they discovered Java and began trading with local traders there. They were so successful that by 1602 they had started importing coffee from Arabia and Africa. This new industry allowed them to build up a strong economic base in the Indies, which helped them become powerful forces in maritime affairs. In 1615, Dutch sailors discovered Java's largest salt mine, known as Bintan Hillock or Boeroori Hillock because of its high concentration of salt crystals. This discovery led to increased development of Java's coffee industry; however, it did not result in large quantities being exported due to transportation challenges at the time. Coffee became available for export only after changes in shipping methods made it possible for larger ships to reach Java without having to stop at every port on their way there. Meanwhile, Dutch colonists were establishing themselves around Batavia (now Jakarta), which became the commercial center of Indonesia during this period. In order to keep up with growing demand for their goods throughout Southeast Asia and beyond, Dutch tea manufacturers set up production plants near Jawa (present-dayJava) in order to produce more efficient tea leaves that could be sold throughout Asia Minor and Europe instead of just within Indonesia itself. During this time period there were also advances being made in brewing techniques; however, until relatively recently most people believed that maga coffee was simply brewed using water alone rather than addition of powders or other spices like cloves or cinnamon sticks
