The first store in Bucyrus was located on Main Street and sold items such as fishingtackle, lobster traps, and crab pots. In 1937, the first store in what is now downtown Bucyrus opened its doors. It was run by Mrs. A.E. Smith and consisted of three floors with a variety of products including books on boating, fishing, sailing, and shipbuilding. By 1949, there were six stores in Bucyrus and they were all selling different products related to maritime interests such as anchors, hats, tugs, boatsigns, flagships (boats that had been specially designed for racing or other events), lifejackets (for swimming hazards), Seafarers' Supply Inc., Wawa Liquor Store #1-5 & 6-10 (a convenience store built around 1938 which became an anchor at the center of downtownBucyrus),and more!
Bucyrus, Ohio is a town in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 979 at the 2010 census. It lies along the Cuyahoga River. The first permanent settler in what is now Bucyrus was James Mclntyre who arrived in 1795. He built a log cabin on the banks of the river and named it "Maclean's Landing." In 1814, David Wahlstedt arrived from Hungary with his family and erected a log cabin near where Wahlstedt had been living for some time before that. He also named his settlement "Wahlstedt's Ferry". The name of Bucyrus was chosen by John Fenton when he surveyed the area in 1827. In 1837, George Washington Dodge started to farm land east of present-day Bucyrus on what is now State Route 611. In 1840, he sold his holdings to John Crouch and moved to Bucyrus with his family. By 1845, there were six Methodists living in Bucyrus: three teachers (John Aiken; Ebenezer Allen; Elijah Caldwell), two ministers (George Price; Abel Peebles), one blacksmith (William Broughton) and one farmer (Thomas Heston). One year later, James Dickey purchased 1/4 acre from George Crouch for $5 which he used as pasture for cows and pigs until 1850 when he sold most of this land to other settlers including William Latta who founded Dayton Mills Company that became one of America's leading manufacturers of fabrics and clothing products. From here on out many families came to live in what would become known as "Dickeystown". This period saw rapid growth because new mills sprang up all over eastern Ohio due to increased demand for textiles caused by industrialization throughout Great Britain and North America during the mid-19th century. This growth led to soil degradation which resulted in major floods which destroyed much property around Dayton during 1893-1894 called the Toledo Floods which killed more than 100 people including many children playing near rapids below downtown Toledo

BucYRUS was a village in Allen County, Ohio, United States. It was founded in 1825 by subscription of the citizens of that county. The name is derived from the French word bourse, meaning "market." The village site was on the Scioto River, about two miles west of present-day Dayton. In 1830, BucYRUS had a population of twenty-one people and six shops. In 1840 it had a population of thirty-two people and eight shops; and in 1850 it had a population of forty-eight people and twelve shops. In 1875 BucYRUS merged with neighboring town OFALLON to form the new town OFALLON & BucYRUS.
