Bucyrus is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Muskingum County. The first permanent settler in what would become Bucyrus was John A. Nicholson in 1814. He named his land "Nicholson's Ford." The first post office in the town was established on October 15, 1840, by George Withers. The first school in Bucyrus was built in 1851 by Mrs. Henson and taught by Mrs. Miller from November 5 to December 3rd of that year; after which time it operated out of a house on West Main Street until 1861 when it moved to its present site on North High Street. In 1906, Mr. Jorgensen donated land for a new high school which stood until 1938 when it became part of Perrysburg Academy In 1935-1936 the village board purchased an addition to Perrysburg Academy which housed a library and classrooms and served as the new high school for Bucyrus until that point In 1945-1946 two smallpox epidemics caused much damage to houses and schools within the village Limits; however no one died as a result of either pandemic In 1951-1952 Mr. Pritchard donated funds towards building an addition to Perrysburg Academy which included gymnasium/gymnasium flooring (the current wrestling arena), science labs and cafeteria ; this project finally opened in 1956 accompanied by extensive renovation work including replacement of windows, roofing, siding and heating systems Since then Bucyrus has seen continuous growth with over 60000 residents currently living there According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse website: "Marijuana Use Among US Adults Ages 12 And Over" data from 2016 shows that 1% or less of adults aged 12 years or older reported using marijuana during any given day during that calendar year . Bucyrus, Ohio is a town in Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The first occupants of what would become Bucyrus were two families who moved to the area from New York City in 1810. The town was founded by John Bucyrus on November 6, 1812 as a result of land purchases from the Canandaigua and Seneca Nation. In 1814, it became an unincorporated community when all of Trumbull County was created. On July 8, 1836, Bucyrus had its first election as a township with an resident population of only seventy-six people. On February 14, 1840, it became one of the twenty townships in Trumbull County when that county was merged into statehood. It remained an unincorporated community until it joined the rest of Cleveland on January 1st of 1907. In 1916–1917 during World War I there was significant activity in and around Bucyrus due to textiles production being done for American troops shipping overseas through Lake Erie at Cuyahoga Falls Naval Shipbuilding Company yards located just north of town on Saginaw Bayou (now part of Cleveland). After the war ended and local production declinedlead to closure but also helped bring attention toBucyrus having been overlooked by earlier researchers who had only noted its location adjacent to Cuyahoga Falls Naval Shipbuilding Company yards
The first settlers in Bucyrus, Ohio were the Winters family who arrived in 1813. The town was named for General James Wilkinson who fought in the War of 1812. The town was founded on the Scioto River and was originally a small farming community. In 1825, Bucyrus became an early city and it has since grown to be one of the most populous cities in Ohio.
