Brunswick, Ohio is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Medina County. The population was 43,883 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Medina County after Cincinnati and is the largest city in Summit County by population. The median household income was $51,594 (2008 estimate) and the racial makeup of Brunswick was 81% white, 13% black or African American, 0.3% Native American, 2% Asian, 1% Pacific Islander, 2% from other races, and 6% from two or more races. Brunswick sits on an exposed bluff overlooking the Muskingum River valley below and its history dates back to 1811 when it was called "Niles" after Nicholas Niles who explored this area for Ohio Company traders seeking rich land grants from France. In 1814 Brunswick became part of Lucas County with a population of 805 people under 24 years old as part of a series of districting reforms designed to promote development along river valleys around Cleveland. The town site was chosen due to its location at an intersection where several transportation routes converged - becoming one of the first places in America that settlers could find access to wagon traffic traveling westward over the Great Lakes region on their way to new lands in Canada or Mexico. The community grew rapidly during early 19th century decades due to increased trade with southern China through western Pennsylvania; liquor profits supplemented agriculture production throughout much of central Ohio; numerous millinery stores were established; construction began on what became known as "The Gilded Age" residential blocks along State Street between High and Low Streets beginning about 1840; local schools were constructed starting about 1852 until they were closed during World War II; major businesses included WmMain Store (now Macy's), Rubbermaid & Allied Factories (later Rubbermaid), Jardine Brothers & Co., First National Bank (later First Niagara Bank), Piggly Wiggly grocery store (now Burger King). Brunswick, Ohio is a small town in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio. It is located in Mahoning County and is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Mentor, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Brunswick was founded in 1813 by Joel Chandler Harris as an agricultural community on the west bank of the Cuyahoga River between Cleveland and Akron. In 1827, Samuel Adams built a log cabin here as headquarters for his new United States Consulate with stores and services for American expatriates living abroad. The first post office was established in Brunswick in 1829 (named "Canton"). In 1830, several farmers purchased land east of town from Amos Adams to establish what became known as The Village of Brunswick; this area became known as striped farmlands because they were divided into strips along their eastern boundaries. By 1840, over twenty homes had been erected there and two churches had been built: First Baptist Church (1840) and Methodist Episcopal Church (1841). In 1850, Henry Clay Mason purchased some land near present day State Road 97 and constructed a plantation called White Sands which still stands today across from modern day State Road 97 intersection. He also developed a millrace that runs through downtown Brunswick which helped provide water power for mills until it closed in 1922 when electric lights were introduced to the area In 1865, four men – George Stephenson, James Wardslaw Polk Jr., Franklin D Roosevelt & Chester Amedy – took possession of The Brick Works on Great Lakes Drive near where Independence Avenue now meets Euclid Avenue; this site would later become home to Akron Municipal Stadium during professional baseball games played there between 1919-2006 In 1872, Judge Jno Easley organized what would become Mahoning County; he named it after his native county seat of Mahoning Valley (now Cincinnati) due to geographic proximity but changed its name to Brunswick because many residents there knew him from his time as one of their judges The first school building was erected at 1535 West Main Street in 1870 but it burned down within six months In 1871, John Husted started construction on what would eventually become Parma Elementary School; this building still stands today on Third Street adjacent to Parma Junior High School Brunswick's first grocery store opened its doors at 313 North Second Street in 1880 In 1907 brickmakers Edwin Ladd & Sons began producing bricks here using lime mortar instead of mortar made with earth or sand; this led to increased production which allowed us to build our original brick buildings Bricks have been used throughout most if not all aspects Of Our Town’s Development!
