The regiment was redesignated as the 9th Infantry Division on October 1, 1951. On May 15, 1960, 9th Infantry Division moved from Fort Lewis near Tacoma to Brook Park in Hancock County after being transferred from Fort Knox at Louisville Kentucky. The division arrived at its new location just in time for summer training exercises ahead of entering combat in Vietnam. Brook Park is a community in the Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 4,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland–Akron–Canton, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Brook Park is located on U.S. Route 6 just south of Akron and east of Canton. Brook Park was founded in 1856 as a small farming town on the edge of what is now Akron city limits by two families from Brookville, Pennsylvania. The first post office opened in 1857 and the first store was built in 1861. In 1865, settlers bought land near what is now downtown Akron from John Cramer for $2 per acre (a total purchase price of $40 million). The community started to grow rapidly after it became clear that there were no railroad tracks or other means for goods to reach it from larger cities such as Cleveland or Cincinnati. By 1870, Brook Park had a school and six businesses including a hotel and grocery store. At that point, it had become one of America's largest agricultural communities with over 100 farms and ranches scattered throughout its rural area. In 1902, Brook Park became part of the newly formed Greater Cleveland metropolitan area when it was divided into five regions: pro-slavery Cleveland Heights; commercial center Akron; manufacturing townships Aston Township and Mahoning Valley; and agricultural areas Delaware Township and Westmoreland Township along with local independent villages such as Ashtabula (now an unincorporated community) and Clinton (now a suburb of Cleveland). Brook Park was founded in 1824 by George Brook and his wife, Sarah. The first post office at Brook Park was established in 1827. The town of Brook Park was incorporated on February 14, 1868. In 1895, the Village of Brook Park was created and it boundaries were expanded to include the communities of Deerfield, Arlington Heights, Glenwood Springs, Mount Carmel and Northbrook. On July 1, 2002, theVillage of Green Township merged into Brook Park. Brook Park is a small community located in Stark County, Ohio with a population of around 620 residents as of 2010. The community is home to several schools including White Sands Elementary School and Southridge Middle School as well as a library which has been open since 1907. It also features an outdoor swimming pool and tennis court which are used for local recreation purposes such as swimming and tennis during summer months. Brook Park was founded in 1824 by John and Mary Brook. The Brook family had a log cabin on the property which they used as their home for many years. In 1848, the Brook family sold the farm to Amos Prentice and his wife Sarah. Amos started a blacksmith shop on the property and also built a house on it. In 1863, James Laughlin bought the farm from Amos Prentice and continued to operate it as a farm until 1918 when he donated it to the Ohio State Trustees for use as a public park.
