Brook Park is a town in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,482 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Brook Park was John Green who arrived in 1788. The town was organized on February 3, 1801 by order of the Ohio General Assembly. The founder of Brook Park was James Dickey and his brother Nicholas Dickey. They named their land "Brook Park" after a brook that flowed through their farmstead. Brook Park experienced significant growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s because of its location at the crossroads of several railroads and its close access to new technology products from Cleveland and other cities. In 1916, BrookPark became one of ninety townships in Stark County when it was created from portions of Richland Township, Bloomfield Township, Defiance Township and Union Township. During World War II, Brook Park played an important role in manufacturing munitions for the war effort by assembling artillery shells and torpedoes at its factory located on Main Street near modern day High School Drive. As part of post-war reconstruction activities following World War II, many people moved into businesses era homes vacated by soldiers or their families who had returned home after the war ended. Many more people moved into housing developments that were erected throughout Stark County during the postwar years such as Willowbrook Village (now known as Eastlake), Northgate Commons (now known as Maple Heights) and others which continue to be developed today including Sunrise Lakes Estates & Villas (formerly known as Westgate), Belmont Gardens (formerly known as Hillcrest), Amana Court Mobile Homes ( formerly known as Bellefonte), Meadowbrook Villas & Residences (formerly known as Meadowcroft), Hazleton Oaks Mobile Homes & Farms (formerly called Woodridge) among others After decades of gradual decline due to various factors such as joblessness or lack thereof; economic slurping caused most residents to leave BrookPark between 2005-2010 according to latest official census data available online via US Census Bureau website www dot com/ckr/ukcr/homepage/. Brook Park was founded on a tract of land that is now part of the city of Cleveland. The first settler in what is now Brook Park was John C. Neely, who purchased the land from the Delaware Indians in 1811. It wasn't until 1822 that James K. Polk bought some of the same land and established a farm there. In 1830, Brook Park became municipal territory of Cleveland, and it is here that Euclid Avenue and Superior Street were laid out as streets. In 1836, President Andrew Johnson signed an executive order creating Brook Park as a township within Cleveland. This gaveBrook Park jurisdiction over all manner of civilian activities such as banking, education, firefighting, etc., which made it one of the most important municipalities in Ohio history. In 1840, when Ohio became a state, Brook Park surrendered its municipal status to Cleveland and became part of the new state government under Governor George Washington Carver. After becoming a part of the state government, Brookpark continued to play an important role in Cleveland's life with institutions like The State Normal School (now Case Western Reserve University) and The American Collegiate Institution (now Drexel University).
