The first American military unit was called “The Regiment of Mounted Riflemen” and was organized on December 6, 1775. On July 4, 1812, General James K. Polk was given command of the National Guard of Ohio and became its first commander-in-chief. In 1816, General Andrew Jackson was appointed Commanding Officer of the Army Corps of Engineers and served in this capacity until his death in 1865. In 1870, Ohio passed an act providing for a state militia system. On November 3rd, 1870, General Oliver O’Neal relieved Colonel Augustus Mifflin as Commandant of Brook Park Arsenal to assume command of the state militia system within days at gunpoint by Governor John Atherton after Mifflin refused to fire upon a groupof Indians that had seized power from their leaders inside the arsenal building on October 7th. In 1915, Brook Park became part of Dayton when it was annexed by that city following its victory over Lake Erie in a war against Toledo (now Cincinnati). As part of Dayton’s annexation process, all major municipal boundaries were redrawn including those between Dayton Township (Brook Park) and Beechwood Township which belonged to Marietta (now Allentown). In 1916 there was an attempt by Mayor John Hynes to annex Brook Park using eminent domain but this failed because residents did not want to leave their homes behind while they relocated to new neighborhoods outside town limits.

The Brook Park Volunteer Infantry was organized on October 15, 1861, in Brook Park, Ohio. The regiment served in the Union army during the American Civil War. The battalion was mustered into service on November 1, 1861. It fought in the Battle of Fredericksburg (March 14–15, 1862), the Battle of Chancellorsville ( April 9–10, 1862), and the Battle of Malvern Hill ( May 10-11, 1862). The regiment lost a total of 19 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded in action.
Brook Park is a town in Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. Brook Park is part of the Dayton–Middletown, OH–KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers to what is now Brook Park were families from the colony of Virginia who came to that area in 1795. They built a log cabin on the present-day site of Greenville Avenue and Main Street near modern day Brookpark Elementary School in 1802. The first school in what is now Brook Park was also built here, named Greenville Academy. In 1807, John Brough landed his ship on what is now Rockspring Island and named it after his home state of Scotland – Rock Springs Island became Brook Park (). In 1814 Amos Dickson founded the village of Dayton on land that he had purchased from John Sevier for $1 million (the equivalent of about $ today). That year also saw the founding of Middletown by James McMillan and others following an effort by Dickson to create a center for commerce and agriculture around which other villages could grow. By 1830 there were over fifty rigs operating in Middletown’s harbor alone (). The early twentieth century was marked by important changes toBrook Park including: settlement by Europeans during World War I; prohibition; annexation by Dayton in 1907; establishment of local schools; increase in industrial production during World War II which led to increased demand for jobs and housing; and decline following the turn of the century as economic activity shifted away from manufacturing towards services. In 2000 Brooks park celebrated its centennial with many events including a parade attended by Mayor Richard Jankowski and dignitaries from across central Ohio

Brook Park was first settled in 1795 by the Taverners of Brookville. The area that is now Brook Park was part of Monterey Township, which was organized in 1814. In 1824, the township became a part of the newly formed Hamilton County and was renamed to Brook Park. In 1868, the township again became a part of Hamilton County and was renamed to Wrightstown. On July 1, 1907, Wrightstown were merged into the new village of Brookpark with its own government and utilities. On October 15, 1916, Wrightstown were dissolved as a result of the merger and all their properties were annexed intoBrookpark. On May 25th, 1923, Brookpark had its first fire when a barn caught on fire. The cause of the fire is still being investigated today but it is believed that it may have been caused by an arsonist or someone who knew about the fire and set it off!
Brook Park was founded in 1824 as a small community on the Scioto River. The town was named for Colonel George Brooks, who donated land to the town. Brook Park grew rapidly and by 1854, it had a population of 100 people. By 1870,brook park had a population of over 1,000 people and was home to four churches and two schools. In 1876, the city of Cleveland annexed Brook Park and the town quickly fell behind in economic development. The last resident of Brook Park died in 1957.
