Broadview Heights is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,859 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Broadview Heights" originated from an early settler's map of 1795 which showed a road named " Broadwalk", leading to what is now known as Broadview Heights. In 1814, Nathan Myrick and his family moved to broadwalk from Newtown Township in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and started tanning goods on their property that still stands today. Nathan's grandson John Myrick founded Myrick Tannery in 1868 which became one of the largest tanneries in the country. In 1892, three years after David Swartz bought 4 acres (1 ha) of land at the corner of High Street and State Road 3 (now Broadview Avenue), he began developing it into what is now called Broadview Heights Shopping Center with its own post office and four stores - Sears Roebuck & Co., J.C. Penney Co., Macy's Inc., and Woolworths Ltd. Along with other small towns growth throughout Muskingum County during this time period, Broadview Heights quickly emerged as a center for culture and commerce within its boundaries. One of the first businesses established inbroadview heights was The Gilded Cage Theatre Company which performance art dances from 1930-1935 by choreographer Jerome Robbins This company helped start off what would become known as muskingum county theater district which has grown to include over 150 theaters across 15 counties across Ohio including Greater Dayton metro area

The population was 14,593 at the 2000 census. The town is located in Holmes County. The history of Broadview Heights begins with John Broadview, who settled here in 1809. He came from a prominent family of farmers in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Mr. Broadview married Rachelle Wickard, daughter of William Wickard, one of the wealthiest men on the frontier of Ohio Territory. Their children included John (who later served as Mayor of Cleveland), Benjamin (a lawyer), and Rachelle (the first female mayor of a U.S.-held city). The first land in Broadview Heights was purchased by George Washington in 1792. The original home of the Washington family, which stood on the present-day site of the Cleveland Clinic, served as a winter residence during his time as President. In 1812, John C. Frary and James Fenton purchased additional land in Broadview Heights and developed it into a fashionable neighborhood for wealthy businessmen and their families. The area slowly transitioned from agricultural to industrial during the late 19th century, but its reputation for quality schools, fine homes, and lively streets continued to grow until World War II when residential areas around downtown Cleveland were destroyed in a fire that swept through the city.
