Broadview Heights is a village in Summit County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,531 at the 2010 census. The Village of Broadview Heights is located on the eastern edge of the city of Akron and it is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European settlers in what is now Broadview Heights were Frenchmen who arrived in 1796. They named their land "Nova Scotia." Over time, other Europeans arrived and began to settle in what would become Broadview Heights: Germans in 1814, Irish immigrants in 1828, Poles in 1830, Dutch settlers from New Amsterdam (now Staten Island) in 1854, Italians from Tuscany (now Italy) in 1868, and Americans from Pennsylvania (later Ohio) arriving during the American Civil War (1861-1865). The village was founded on July 4, 1868 by Horace Pohlman as part of an effort to unify Akron with surrounding towns that were consolidated into the new county of Summit County. At its founding there were only a few buildings and about 25 people living within a radius of one another. In 1870-71 Pohlman built a brick schoolhouse and two other buildings for use as businesses or residences. A store opened near today's intersection of West Superior Street and West Meridian Avenue where Main Street meets Ridge Road; this store served as the nucleus around which later businesses developed. In 1886 John Goudreau established Goudreau's grocery store on North Meridian Avenue; this store became one of local landmarkstone stores along with those owned by Julius Streicher along South Superior Street eastward into today's town center. Other early business owners included Jules Lichtenthaler who operated a millinery shop on West Main Street between Ridge Road and Ridge Road; Augustus Cramer who ran a general merchandise store off East Ridge Road between Superior and Center Streets; Edward Weilandt whose grocerystore operated off South Euclid Avenue between Bellevue Boulevard and Middlebelt Drive until 1907 when he sold it to Harry Welch; Jacob Kappler whose lumberyard stood adjacent to present-day corner East Maple street northwest thereof until it was taken over by Price Waterhouse Paper Co.; Alex Ziegler whose bakery graced present day corner East Second street northeast thereof until 1941 when it closed due to World War II military bombing raids; John Wirths who ran an ice cream parlor at FourthStreetand Prospect Avenue until his death also that year; Anthony Mancuso Sr., Anthony Mancuso Jr., Louis Ackerly occupied various retail storefronts throughout downtown prior to their merger into PriceWaterhouse Paper Co.; among others Grocery Outlet Incorporated was organized April 12th 1912 out of six existing concerns operating under that name at FourthStreetand Prospect avenue Today Broadview Heights boasts more than 50 businesses including 11 anchor stores - most notably PriceWaterhouse Paper Co.'s three anchors - numerous smaller shops scattered throughout its core area including several antique stores as well as multiple health food/fitness centers including One Stop Fitness & Wellness Centers LLC which opened up shop on December 1st 2013 inside One Stop Weightlifting & Exercise Equipment across from PriceWaterhouse Paper Company HQ annexe - major employers include Vermeer Furniture Incorporated with locations throughout downtown central mall Shopping plaza anchored by Macy’s since 1999 has seen increased development featuring high end retailers such as Sears Holding Corp./Sears Kenmore HomeStoreIncorporation having moved into space formerly used by JCPenney Corporation/JCPenney Department Store before that Asheville Methodist Episcopal Church still stands today looking out over Broadview Heights skyline

Broadview Heights, Ohio is located in the Athens-Clarion County, Ohio area and was first settled in 1796. The population was 4,856 at the 2010 census. It is a small town that consists of just over 1,000 residents. Broadview Heights has a rich history dating back to when it was part of the Northwest Territory. In 1802, Ohio passed an act which created the township of Athens and required all new settlers to reside there for two years before they could move on to other parts of the state. A group of men from Broadview Heights decided to stay and started a grocery store in what is now known as Main Street. They were soon joined by others who founded similar businesses throughout Athens Township. By 1825, there were fourteen stores in Athens Township and twelve businesses operated by citizens or farmers including one tannery. The township seat moved from Athens to Broadview Heights in 1829 because of concerns about expansion into neighboring townships and fears that land would be taken away from those who wanted to settle hereabouts. The original town plat included only four blocks long with four streets wide; today’s town limits include six blocks with twenty-four streets wide - making it one of smallest towns in Hamilton County by population size alone! During the early 1800s, much attention was focused on developing Iron Mountain beyond Cincinnati due to its potential as an major center for coalmining and shipping operations. However, no such industry materialized because transportation became available through railways rather than horses and carts which had been used previously for carrying goods up and down hillsides! In 1802, as part of efforts by President George Washington to promote iron mining within America as a means of creating new jobs during his second term (1801-1809), he issued an order calling for proposals for larger iron mines across this country “to be forwarded immediately … To Genl Wm Adams … I am confident he will favor your applications if proper inducements are given him” On January 24th, 1803 Governor James Kenedy issued a proclamation inviting representatives from Pennsylvania (the manufacturing center at that time) interested in purchasing lots therein “to attend council meeting at this place tomorrow until further notice” This announcement led many entrepreneurs among us – young men fresh out college or newly married – across our region eager to find opportunities like these! Unfortunately though no large contracts resulted because transportation costs then amounted more than $1 per tonne compared to today’s prices around $0.50-$0., let alone feasibility issues surrounding transporting ore uphill past steep hillsides without assistance!
