The town was founded by Methodists in 1824 and named for John Broadbent, a minister from Granville County, England who had come to America as a missionary Boolean. The first store in Broadview Heights was built on East Main Street in 1828. In 1840, Rev. J.W. Hogg started the first school in Broadview Heights and it remain the only high school in town until 1990 when it merged with Columbiana Community High School to form Columbiana Valley High School #1 Broadview Heights is located at (41.766667,-83.277777). It has a total area of , including of which is land and are water rights. As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,521 people, 585 households, and 434 families residing in the town; however, the population density was 913 people per square mile (345/km²). There were 653 housing units at an average density of 367 per square mile (147/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97% white and 2% African American; Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0%.
