Brecksville is a town in the Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,715 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hamilton County and home to the Brecksville-Troy Township Public Library. The township was formed from parts of both Troy and Miami Township in 1824. The historic center of Brecksville is now a small cluster of buildings on Market Street between East Third and West Fourth Streets. Between 1824 and 1827, these were part of what was then known as Miami Township (now parts of Troy). In 1827, when the township was organized, its center moved to what is now Brecksville because it offered more public square space than did other townships in that area. The first settler in Brecksville was John Aitken who arrived around 1790. He named his land "Breckerville." Development began early on in this community with gristmills and sawmills being built by residents soon after initial settlement occurred. A bank was chartered in 1830 which served as a financial foundation for many businesses withinbreckesville over the years including millinery, lumber, dairy products and insurance companies. The banks also played an important role in supporting local churches during their early days even though most services were provided by parishes based elsewhere outsideof BRECKVILLE until 1870 when Congregationalists took up residence there along with Bible readings from 7pm to 8pm each evening starting at Main Street Methodist Church In 1861 breckesville became one of twelve cities included withinthe newly created state of Ohio that made up “the great Toledo District” outsideof Ohio’s capital city .
