The town was founded in 1814, and the first settler, John Buckeye, donated land to the United States Military Academy at West Point. In 1827, the American Civil War began, and many Brecksville residents fought on both sides. After the war ended, many members of the military returned home and started businesses in the town. Brecksville is a community in Montgomery County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton metropolitan area. Brecksville was founded in 1814 by George Brecks and his family. The town was named for him and his wife, Hetty Brecks. The first settler in what is now Brecksville was John Addis who arrived in 1795. He had come with a group of settlers from Connecticut who were looking for land to settle on after their shipwreck on the Great Lakes. Addis built a cabin near present-day Brecksville on the Scioto River. He became one of the early traders in the area and exported goods such as cornmeal and tobacco from his farm to other settlements along the river until he sold his property near downtown Dayton to Nicholas Davenport in 1824. Davenport named his new settlement for himself, adding "VILLE" (pronounced "vee-lee") to indicate that he owned all of what would later becomeBrecksville Township. By 1827, over 50 families lived in VILLE; it grew rapidly during its early years due to trade with surrounding townships and deliveries from local farmers throughout the region via wagon or horseback ride. In 1828, Ville incorporated as a village under the name of Dayton but continued to grow rapidly under its own mayor and trustees until 1830 when it achieved city status through an act of the Ohio General Assembly . The first Mayor of Dayton was James Wirtz (1830-32). At this time Ville's population also included many slaves who had been bought by their masters prior to becoming free men and participated in society much like their white counterparts did before they lost their freedom. During Wirtz's term (1832-1839), several important events happened including passage of legislation creating University College which would later be renamed Brown University; construction of Bethel Church; commencement exercises for graduate students at nearby Wright Institute; establishment of schools within Ville itself including Medical School (now Case Western Reserve University) under Drs Samuel Cupples & David Starr Jordan; fire that destroyed much business activity around Main Street between Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue on November 3rd 1837 which left over 100 businesses closed among others - one could only walk about two blocks between stores before you ran into another business impacted by fire! This event helped drive development around Main Street towards today's intersection Third Avenue/Fourth Avenue where most businesses are located today thanks to strong volunteer effort spearheaded by Rotary Club members back then! Brecksville is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Union County. The population was 25,871 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in Union County by population. The area now comprising Brecksville was first settled in 1792 by French Canadian Canadiens and their families who arrived from Quebec City. The town started as a small village called Notre-Dame-de-Lorette, which later became part of the larger community of Brecksville. In 1803, following the Creek War, General David Rees laid claim to all of eastern Ohio after his victory at Fallen Timbers Field over Native American forces under Chief Tecumseh. The strategic location (near two major rivers) made Brecksville an attractive site for development and construction began on several large sawmills and gristmills that were among the most important economic engines in early regionally based communities such as Dayton and Middletown. By 1825, there were over twenty businesses operating in Brecksville with a payroll totaling $10,000 per year The Panic of 1837 caused a significant decline in business activity throughout much of central Ohio due to low commodity prices; however,Brecksville continued to be one of the most prosperous towns in central Ohio through continuing development both industrially and commercially During World War I many factories produced munitions including ammunition plants Atchison Ammunition Works (now Thiokol Corporation) and Westinghouse Electric Company’s Monongalia Works near Sandusky In 1922 Brecksville became home to Municipal Airport when what is now Wright-Patterson Air Force Base was opened nearby
