Blue Ash is a small town in the state of Ohio, located in the Metro Statistical Area. The population was 3,581 at the 2010 census. Blue Ash is part of the Akron-Canton-Muncie Combined statistical area. The town was founded on July 8, 1814 by Captain James Wilkinson and his family when they bought 2,000 acres (800 hectares) near present day Blue Ash from the Delaware and Western Railroad. Captain Wilkinson named the settlement "Blue Ash" after he saw a blue sky early one morning while driving to work. The first post office opened in 1827 and was called "Greene". The name "Blue Ash" was chosen because it Ortiz Blanco had been used for a blacksmith shop in Greenville, Indiana before it became part of Columbus, Ohio. In 1865, John A. Huffman platted what is now downtown Blue Ash and laid out streets that ran east-west. In 1868, he built a large brick courthouse which remains standing today on South Main Street. From 1865 until 1870, BlueAsh functioned as an unincorporated community under control of Greene County government On February 24th, 1907 local citizens voted to change their name to "Akron." On March 7th of that year akronpostoffice changed its name to AkronPost Office with Mayor Burt Reynolds as Postmaster General A new high school opened in 1911 and also served as home for many years for the local public library . It burned down in 1975 but was rebuilt using funding from then Governor Ted Strickland .
