Blue Ash, Ohio is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 7,581 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to settled in Blue Ash were Methodists from North Carolina who moved there in 1814 and founded what is now Greenville Township. They named their settlement "Ashcroft" after a small stream that flowed through their farmland. In 1821, they organized as a town and changed their name to Blue Ash because of the ash trees that grew near their courthouse square. The city of Dayton was incorporated in 1896 and annexed by Blue Ash as part of that incorporation. The two towns had different economic interests until Dayton merged with Cincinnati in 2001 to form the Greater Cincinnati Metro area. Blue Ash's history can be traced back to 1814 when Methodists from North Carolina came to live in what is now Muskingum County and establish a Chapel community under the leadership of John Wilkinson (1772-1842). The original settlers names were not recorded but they likely included Ashley or Ashtree which means "a meadow." Eventually, these settlers adopted the name "Blue Ash" because of how blue the sky looked at night during their early days on the site where Greenville Township was later established. By 1800, most residents had left for other settlements due to new land grants offered by President George Washington following his purchase of much of western Pennsylvania from France in 1763. Most removed westward within 10 years after purchasing this new land; however, some continued living on Ashley Creek until about 1830 when development began upstream along Beaver Creek at what is now downtown Dayton. This riverfront development occurred during an era when plans called for alluvial deposition along riversides so technological advances led to more efficient transportation acrossOhio River valleys which freed up valuable real estate for manufacturing and commercial growth such as those found today within Downtown Dayton including Blue Ash itself with its many businesses located on various streets throughout its historical district including High Street running parallel with Beaver Creek Boulevard just east of downtown where our current Loveland Park sits today adjacent to High School/Civic Center before continuing downhill along Broad Ripple Avenue past Fairmont Mall into Lancaster County proper where American Manufacturing Company once stood before it closed doors circa 1957 courtesy of Mayor Meyer Schaefer’s efforts saved it from demolition thanks also to generous donations made by local citizens). From this initial settlement only one child was born: James Wilkinson (1795-1864) who married Susannah Forrester (1800-1847) daughterof Jonathan Forrester (1768-1836) one time mayor pro tem and founder pastor of First Baptist Church at Cherry Hill outside Lebanon township near present day Covington Township Fayette Local History Museum
The Blue Ash area was settled in the early 1800s by fur traders and missionaries. The first post office in the area was established in 1810, and the first school was built in 1812. In 1836, a railroad was constructed through the area, which helped to bring new settlers and businesses to the region. By 1860, Blue Ash had become a small town with a population of around 100 people. In 1865, the Blue Ash & Whitehall Railroad was completed, which allowed for more commerce to be brought into the town. In 1868, Blue Ash became part of Cleveland and its incorporation as an independent city. The city government decided to rename itself after John Fenton Green (1822-1911), an American author and educator who helped popularize education in America during the 19th century.
