Bexley, Ohio is a small town in the northwestern part of Ohio, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cuyahoga County. The town was founded by General John Buford in 1802 as a trading post on the now-defunct Great Miami River. He named it for British general and statesman James Buxley who had fought in the American Revolution and later served as a U.S. Representative from Ohio. In 1814, Buford's son George moved the post to what is now its current location on Euclid Avenue downtown after buying a tract of land from Anthony Wayne (the father of Tecumseh). In 1825, following Indian removal of most Native Americans from Ohio, local residents were granted title to about two-thirds of what is now Bexley Township on May 25, 1825 by U.S. President James Kettle Morrill under section 10653 of the Indian Removal Act.. A school was built in what is today Elmwood Village in 1830 and became known as "The Grammar School". A gristmill was built in 1835 by Elijah Hawkinson and became known as "The Hawkinson Mill". The mill closed around 1870 but reopened briefly in 1905 before closing again for good that year. A new gristmill was built on State Route 444 in 1949 by Jerald Ritchie & Sons which remains operational today; it has been called one of America's oldest mills still operating with original equipment including waterpower from an underground well

Bexley is a city in the Cleveland-Akron, Ohio, metropolitan area. The population was 992 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton, OH-MI Combined Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Bexley were French colonists who arrived in 1688 and named it "Bois de la Motte" (Hill of the Mote). The name may be a corruption of Beavercreek or Beech Grove. In 1795, when Ohio became a state, Bexley was incorporated as an unincorporated village within the present-day city of Cleveland. In 1803, John Copley purchased 1/2 mile (3 km) east of Main Street and 2 acres (0.8 km) on which he built his house called "Bogue's Fort". This fort served as a military post for local farmers and their militia during the War of 1812 against British forces. One account reports that about 100 British soldiers destroyed parts of Bogue's Fort before withdrawing after being repelled by American artillery fire; another report says that only six British soldiers burned down the fort. In 1814*, General Amos Lawrence took possession of Bogue's Fort from Copley and later renamed it "Fort Knox". In 1815*, when Cleveland became a state, Bexley became its capital. The current building on Main Street was erected in 1904–05 as part of renovations to City Hall which also included enlarging City Hall Park to include a large fountain with two lions sculpted above it by noted artist Augustus SaintGaudens. During World War II, many businesses located near wherepresent-day University Circle stand went out of business due to shortages brought on by rationing during World War II; however today there are still several businesses located near University Circle that continue to operate despite being closed during wartime times due to lack Of available employees or other reasons
Bexley was founded in 1810 as a small farming community in the township of North Bexley, now part of the city of Columbus. The area around Bexley was first settled by Germans, who arrived during the early 1800s. By 1825, the population had grown to about 100 people. In 1830, two brothers named James and John Beecham purchased land east of present-day Bexley from a group of Native Americans. They began to build a home there and called it Beecham's Grove. Over time, they added other homes and grew their farm operation until they had 10 acres (4 hectares) total. In 1841, they built a larger house on the property that still stands today and named it Beecham's Manor. Beacham became one of Ohio's first statewide politicians when he was elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1840. He then served as speaker of the House from 1845 to 1850 before retiring to run for office again in 1851. He won election but died before taking office due to illness. His brother John then served as his replacement for three years before becoming governor of Ohio in 1861 after his brother's death. He then served as president Ulysses S Grant's second term from 1865-1869 before leaving office due to health problems once more. The Beechams' manor continued to be used by family members until 1920 when it was sold for use as an air conditioned movie theater across town from where it currently stands overlooking Lake Erie
