The army mobilized more than 1 million soldiers and marines and distributed nearly 2 million gifts to soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines. In 1942-1943 shipments increased as America entered World War II. In addition to items sent through post office parcel service Troop Pteg Wm Fenton donated blankets which he personally collected from area homes between December 5th 1944-January 3rd 1945 while stationed at Camp White Sulphur Springs Texas A&M University football field located south of town off I-71W about 12 miles east of Zanesville OH Additional donations came from individuals who knew someone serving or having served within our nation’s armed forces including Gp Capt Jno Haggerty USMC whocollectioned candy bars given away by theater personnel at Des Moines IA playfield during reopening weekend april 1945 Additionally friends & family members local businesses gave items such as fresh produce especially apples pies grapes oranges etc . Many businesses also contributed bake sale items cake donuts pastries etc . largest donation however was made by Mrs Lillian Vail her uncle Pvt John Vail brought over two hundred truckloads worth of flour she had baked for US military families stationed overseas shipped direct to Bexley via Erie PA Railroad

Bexley, Ohio is a small town in the northwestern corner of Ohio. The population was 7,492 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncie, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1817 by General David Wooster and his brother-in-law Colonel Nicholas Biddle as a place for soldiers to rest and await reinforcements when they marched against Native Americans. They named it after Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Bexley who had been killed in action earlier that year. The first store opened in 1819, and the first school was built in 1824. In 1830, Bexley became an independent village and lost its status as a military post until 1837 when it became part of the new Summit County government. In 1861, while serving in the Union army during the American Civil War, David Wooster donated land to build what is now Bexley Elementary School. In 1865, he founded the city water company which still operates today under the name Waterworks Incorporated. In 1898, he donated land to create what is now Parkview Drive and developed it into a community with homes for people who worked on his farm or bought property thereabouts because it offered good access to water supplies from Lakes Erie and Huron. He also endowed a college here which eventually became Kent State University; this gift also made him one of only two individuals ever honored with honorary degrees from both universities (the other being Drs Martin Luther King Jr., Jr., at Kent State University). The most famous resident of Bexley was actor/director William Shakespeare who lived there between 1599-1616; his son John Shakespeare lived there from 1626-1650 and his grandson Henry Shakespeare moved out in 1663 because he could not support himself without working on his father's farmstead alone anymore.]] Bexley played host to many well known visitors during its history including President Ulysses S Grant once he arrived from Cincinnati after being elected 44th president of America in 1865; General George Armstrong Custer during his visit to Summit County in 1880; Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli during a state visit to Ohio on October 9th 1889; Queen Victoria cameto visit Queen Maud College here on September 2nd 1893]; film director Alfred Hitchcock spent time here between 1934-1935 filming Psycho(); professional wrestler Hulk Hogan held wrestling matches at nearby Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Arena between December 3rd 1995 - January 6th 1996] In 1951 local First Lady Mamie Eisenhower visited Parkview Drive where she enjoyed playing golf course politics games with her husband Dwight Eisenhower while they awaited their flight home from Europe];[and former NFL player Chad Ochocinco took up residence there some time later following his discharge from The UCONN football team]. Today much of what used to be called "Shakespeare Avenue" has been renamed Melvin Street after current Mayor Shane Kapp (a native OFI member) while most of what used to be called "Eisenhower Boulevard" has been renamed "Clinton Boulevard" after current Vice President Richard Cheney.]]
