Navy deployed gift history in Berea, Ohio began with the USS Lexington (CV-6) on October 1, 1943. This was the first American ship to be sent to join World War II. The USS Lexington arrived in Pearl Harbor on December 7 and became part of the United States Navy's 5th Fleet. The USS Lexington was an attack submarine and participated in many combat missions during World War II. She sank nine Japanese submarines and damage eleven others. She also served as a training vessel for submariners before their deployment to war. On January 8, 1945, the USS Lexington returned from her deployment and delivered troops supplies to Guam. On February 2, 1945, she sailed back home after delivering more troops supplies to Okinawa Japan. The USS Lexington then decommissioned on April 20, 1945 and was turned over to the Coast Guard for storage until being scrapped three years later in 1951 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
Berea is a town in the Trumbull County, Ohio, United States. The population was 9,098 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton, OH metropolitan area. The first settler in Berea was Ephraim Green who built a log cabin on the present day corner of Parsons and Elm Streets in 1811. In 1814, pioneer George Rogers Clark founded what would become Berea when he bought an acre (0.40 km²) of land from John Beal for $5 dollars. The town was named after Berea College which had been founded by George Washington Carver in 1881 as one of four colleges opened statewide by Ohio Governor Andrew Johnson as part of his Great Society program to provide education opportunities for low-income citizens. A post office called Berea was established in 1821, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on February 14, 1865. The first school in Berea was built on Wabash Avenue near where today's Parkview Drive stands. It served grades K through 12 until 1889 when a new high school building became available and that community began to grow rapidly with more students enrolling into the original grade levelschool buildings and then onto larger ones over time). With no schools open during World War II due to war production shortages, local residents helped build three elementary schools (grades 1 through 3) as well as two middle schools (grades 4 and 5) across from each other on Orchard Road between Euclid Avenue and Wabash Avenue; these were all completed before 1945 when physical limitations within the city limits caused all but one of those structures to be demolished also while another(middle/junior high school) still stands AS OF APRIL 2018 . In 1956, after years of processional planning led by President Eisenhower's reelection campaign manager Joseph McCarthy Jr., plans were made for a combined high/middle/elementary school south off Superior Court Street across from FirstEnergy Stadium that would serve many areas including east Cleveland Heights west Akron neighborhoods south Dearborn Heights west Mentor neighborhoods north Arlington Heights . A vote taken April 16th resulted in approval for construction which began late summer 1957 with groundbreaking taking place October 2nd following which classes started September 15th 1958! Unfortunately due to funding shortages faced by districts throughout America during this time period sudden closures happened at various points throughout early 1960s leading eventually to closure again effective January 1st 1966 just weeks shy of its 10 year anniversary! After much deliberation it reopened under new management effective March 6th 1966 having outgrown its previous facilities! The current configuration has been maintained largely unchanged since then with only slight expansions or renovations needed! Many community members have helped contribute over time such as donating land or funds necessary for major projects like streetlights being replaced etceteras making Berea one very active town overall!

The USS Constitution, a decommissioned U.S. Navy ship that was converted into a luxury cruise liner in the early 2000s, became the first military vessel to be deployed as part of America's "war on terror." The Constitution sailed from Naval Station Charleston, South Carolina, on September 11th 2001 and arrived at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, two days later. After spending several months moored at the naval base, the Constitution participated in Operation Neptune's Spear - an effort by Navy SEALs to capture Osama bin Laden - and returned home on October 5th 2001.
Berea, Ohio is a small town in Medina County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area. The settlement of Berea was founded in 1796 by Captain JamesONeill and his wife Eleanor Dunlap on land that now makes up the eastern edge of Medina County. In 1802, the village of Berea was organized as a township with a population of just over 100 people. In 1811, the village became a city under the name of Cleveland after its incorporation as an independent municipality. The new city government renamed itself Cleveland again in 1837 when it merged with neighboring Medina Township to form what is now Medina County. During World War I (1914-18), Berea served as headquarters for military detachments assigned to various theatres of war throughout Ohio and Kentucky. As a result, many local businesses were located here including Parma Tools Company and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company which remain operational to this day. The post office first opened in 1920 and remains open today; it has been completely remodeled twice since then! Berea's rich history begins with its founders who arrived here during the early 1800s looking for land to settle on because there wasn't much available east of Cincinnati due to Native American reservations being established there at that time. Captain JamesONeill found success farming corn but decided to move his family into town so they could be closer to everything else going on in their fledgling community - something that still holds true today! After settling down and starting a family, Captain ONeill brought along his wife Eleanor Dunlap who also started out farming but quickly realized she couldn't do it alone so she joined him in town becoming one of the most important women locally involved in politics and business until her death in 1868 at age 53 years old! Their children followed suit soon after - all three generations living together until 1951 when Eleanor ONeill's granddaughter moved back home permanently after marrying an American Legion veteran from Columbus who had served here during World War II!
Berea was founded in 1790 by tenant farmers. In 1801, the town received its charter from the Ohio General Assembly. The town was renamed Berea in 1824 after Major George Berea, a hero of the War of 1812. The first store opened in 1850 and the first post office was established in 1851. In 1870, a cotton gin was built and it became one of the most important businesses in Berea. In 1907, a hydroelectric power plant was built and it made Berea one of the leading cities in Ohio with access to electricity.
