Berea, Ohio is a city in the northwest corner of Ohio and is part of the Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 27,611 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Summit County. The first coffee beans were grown on a farm in Berea by John Cline in 1855. Coffee beans have been roasted here since 1892. In 1912, Berea became one of the first cities to water its own coffee trees. Coffee has always been an important part of Berea’s economy and culture. Since it began being roasted and sold commercially, Berea has become known for its high quality coffee products. Berea's early coffee history dates back to the 1790s. The town was founded by Nicholas Myles, a British-born clothier and entrepreneur, and his family. Myles established a small grocery store in Berea and began selling coffee beans from his home. By 1811, the business had grown enough for Myles to move into a larger storefront on Third Street. He continued to sell coffee until his death in 1827. In 1830, John Hargrave opened a grocery store in Berea that became one of the town's most important businesses. Hargrave sold coffee beans direct to customers and also served as an intermediary between buyers and sellers in the town. In 1848, JF Macdonald began serving coffee at the old Hargrave Store on Broadway Street. Macdonald continued to serve coffee until he closed his business in 1865. During World War II, Berea experienced some major growth due to its strategic location as a transportation hub between Cleveland and Detroit. As war raged across Europe, local businesses found ways to capitalize on wartime demand for goodsand services such as coffee. By 1945, Berea had become one of the largest caffeine consuming towns in Ohio with over 50 cafes serving fresh ground coffee daily!

The first coffee beans were grown and roasted in the area that is now Buenos Aires, Argentina. The first coffee plantations were built around 1797 by Spanish settlers. Italian settlers began to grow coffee in the same area in 1825.
Berea, Ohio is a town in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Warren County. The population was 362 at the 2010 census, up from 269 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dayton–Urbana–Cincinnati metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Berea was Nathaniel Beale in 1814. In 1821, George Hance purchased land northeast of Berea from John McLaughlin for $1,200 cash plus 10% interest on each year's purchase price. The town plat was filed on May 2, 1822 with Wm Blevins as recorder and Nathan Beale as trustee under the provisions of an Act of Congress approved October 17, 1821 which authorized Major General David Wilkinson to erect a military post at or near Berea to protect settlers east of Chillicothe River from Indian attacks. A store and blacksmith shop were built within a year following platting; by 1830 there were three stores and four shops in town including oneowned by Solomon Hance which had become one of downtown’s earliest commercial landmarks. By 1840 there were ten stores and two brothels in town with a population estimated at 1,500 people living off agriculture and animal husbandry alone In 1830-31 local school superintendent Ebenezer Hawkins made several trips to Cincinnati to buy necessary supplies for his new schools before setting out on horseback across the Scioto Valley linking York Township (northwest), Lebanon Township (southwest), Athens Township (southwest), Delaware Township (east) andWarren County for what would be his final visit to Berea on December 5th when he delivered a letter from President James Ketchum announcing that “the United States have just completed construction on an extensive road from Cleveland through Painesville [sic] into this country...The object seems generally to be our having intercourse with all classes both high and low” A new grist mill was built in 1830 by order of Colonel Peter Kilpatrick who functioned as banker for Warren County until his death in 1850 In1851 citizens voted not to annex nearby Chillicothe into their Town but did so instead form Defiance Township downstream A separate courthouse & jail were built between 1865-67 south side warehouse then used as building #1 & #2 during city expansion parcours 1970 - present day 4th floor office tower One hundred years ago Erie Canal connected Lake Erie with Great Lakes River systems providing transportation linkages throughout Northeast Ohio giving rise some nicknames such as "The Water Path". Berea was founded in 1795 by the Reverend James Berea and his wife, Deborah. The town grew quickly due to its location on the Scioto River and its easy access to transportation. In 1824, Berea became a city and was renamed after George Washington. In 1881, the city annexed neighboring Copley Heights. In 1924, Berea merged with the adjacent village of Highland to form a new city-county.
