Bellefontaine, Ohio is a small town in Ottawa County, Ohio, United States. It is the home of the Bellefontaine Coffee Company and the predecessor to Koffee Klatch. Bellefontaine was founded in 1855 by Alexander Graham Bell and his family. The town grew rapidly during the early 20th century due to its location on the main drag between Dayton and Lebanon. A large part of this growth came from Bellefontaine's relationships with two major coffee companies: The Milken Brothers Corporation and Wabash Coffee Company. In 1916, The Bellefontaine Coffee Company merged with Wabash Coffee Company to form The American Koffee Companies Incorporated (AKC). The Bellefontaine Coffee Company continued production until 1984; however, it left a lasting legacy on the town by giving many people a chance to experience great coffee firsthand. Today, visitors can find various locations around Bellefontaine serving up delicious cups of k-cups made from their beans.

The history of tactical coffee can be traced back to at least the early 1800s. One of the first references to coffee in warfare was an article from 1802 written by Captain James Cook on his seventh voyage as captain of the HMS Bounty. In that article, Cook described a drink he had called "coffin water" which consisted of a pot of hot water and two cups of ground coffee. A few years later, Captain John Smith discovered Java in 1795 and named it after that region's now well-known coffee bean, Java Coffee. Soon after this discovery, Europeans began exporting java beans all over the world. By 1830, there were over 1,000 different coffees available on the market. In 1837, General Phillip Sheridan used coffee beans to help him victory against Native Americans at Battle of Washita River. This event is credited with beginning American Coffee Culture. After that battle, western farmers began marketing their own beans and buying those from farmers in other parts of America. During World War II, both Germany and Japan used coffee for their military purposes. The Allies also started making use of coffee as part of their propaganda campaigns during the war due to its importance in Nazi Germany's arms program and Japanese militarism. In 1945, when World War II ended hostilities across Europe and Asia respectively, much like today's global economy has led to increased trade throughout many regions around the world – including Coffee – most retreating Axis forces left behind tons (and sometimes even barrels)of roasted black beans as spoils valued at up to $1 million per pound!
Tactical coffee was first introduced to the world in 1978 by The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCA). At that time, the coffee industry was still in its early stage and there were no standardized brewing methods or equipment. To meet the needs of military and law enforcement units, SCA developed a unique system called "Brewmaster's Edition". This system used hand-numbered cups and insisted on a certain brewing time for each cup.
