By 1840, however, most of the agricultural production had shifted fromland to watermelons and corn; furthermore, manufacturing grew increasingly important as well: mills produced cloth (the first being established here), boots and shoes (a boom period led by local entrepreneurs such as George Stephenson), soapstone carvings (one example being erected here), flourishes such as clocks (beginning production at this site in 1847), bricks (manufactured here beginning with 1857), cheese (started here around 1830) – all while expanding transportation capabilities with improved wagon roads and rails coming into prominence via canal construction starting in the 1850s. One key figure associated with Bellefontaine throughout these years is Abram Bealett Sr., who arrived in Ohio circa 1800 from Vermont looking for land he could farm but found only barren hills surrounding what would become his homebase—BelleFontaine would eventually become one ofBealett's many holdings including 63 townships covering some 235 square miles across three counties––all within what is now Stark County! As early as 1828 Bealett had begun importing materials needed for making bricks—-specifically lime—-from England so he could produce them onsite at his new brickworks; this endeavor would later lead him onto becoming one ofthe largest brickmakers on American soil! In addition to becoming one ofOhio's leading landowners during this timeperiod––he also played an instrumental rolein building up both society & economy within his community before passing away aged 80+ last year!
