Bedford is a small town in Columbiana County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dayton–Cincinnati metropolitan area. Bedford is located on the eastern edge of Columbiana County and the western edge of Greene County. The village of Bedford lies within Greene County. The first settler in what is now Bedford was Nicholas Ives. He built a log cabin in 1796 on an east-west road that later became State Route 66. In 1801, John Huffman settled in Bedford and started a wagon business called "Huffman & Company." A post office was established at Bedford in 1814, and it remained in operation until 1915. In 1818, John Copley founded Athens Township with land he had purchased from Nicholas Ives. Athens Township included present-day Bedford as well as parts of Greeneville and Uniontownships to the south and west. In 1830, Jonathan Dayton laid out what is now Dayton along portions of State Route 66 between Lebanon Pike and Miamisburg Road (now US 33). On July 15, 1830, Daytonville was platted under state charter by George Washington Carver as part of his gift to Hamilton Township which included present-day Daytonville and much of Fulton County including Cincinnati proper

Bedford, Ohio is a small city located in the southwestern part of the United States. The population was 15,541 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bedford County. The history of Bedford dates back to 1812 when it was founded as an agricultural village on a tract of land that was then part of Fayette Township. In 1826, Bedford became a town and in 1836 it became a city. The first mayor of Bedford was James Mclntyre and the first City Councilmember was John Hickey. The original streetcars were brought in by J.C. Nichols and Company from Cincinnati, Ohio in 1879 and ran on Woodward Avenue downtown for two years before being replaced by buses which continued until 1915 when they were replaced by cars again. On July 4th, 1913, Bedford celebrated its centennial with an anniversary parade through downtown which included floats filled with local dignitaries including Mayor Mclntyre and City Councilmember Hickey along with fire engines and motorcycles escorted by members of the Volunteer Fire Department who had gathered outside!
