Bedford Heights is a small town in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 8,605 at the 2010 census. Bedford Heights is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1837, Welsh immigrants moving west along the Scioto River discovered rich coal deposits near what would become Bedford Heights; this led to rapid development of the town with construction of homes, businesses and churches beginning right away. By 1850, much of what exists today had been built: Streets were laid out including Allerton Road east to Delaware Avenue/State Route 422 north to Lakeshore Drive/Route 9 south to Euclid Avenue/Highland Boulevard west to State Route 422 southwest to Allerton Road again east to Erie Street/Route 9 outside of town limits today; schools were built soon thereafter including Holy Cross School which opened in 1840 on South High Street across from Maple Leaf Cemetery; Market Square began serving as an open market three years later primarily for local farmers but eventually becoming more commercialized as well with several stores added over time starting with First National Bank building at corner Main Street & Erie Street late 1860s; Downtown began developing soon after too with Merchants Row being developed off Elmira Road between Main & State routes 422 & 424 when streets crossed Depot Creek southeast of town limits within boundaries today all while canal boatboats moored off Indianola Lake frequently docking near present day Old Fort Mifflin Warehouse visible from Interstate 71 just south of downtown area initially one story wooden shanty known locally simply as “the pier” served as business headquarters for merchants until brick buildings replaced it c 1870 while warehouse remain standing into recent decades complete with extensive internal features still intact shuttle service available daily between warehouses located opposite interchange providing convenient easy access both inside&outside Enjoyed excellent reputation for quality produce due largely to superior location + lack thereof competition during era
