Beavercreek, Ohio is home to the world’s largest gun show. The event takes place every year in late September and features over 100 exhibitors from all over the world. It also includes a variety of firearm related events throughout the week. Gun gift history in Beavercreek dates back to 1875 when a group of men from nearby Columbus formed the Beavercreek Firearms Club. The club made it their mission to promoteresponsible gun ownership by providing education about firearms and how they could be used in lawful purposes. The club held its first meeting at the home of one of its members, Elisha Senter, on October 3rd. At that meeting, they voted to form a pistol club and adopt a Constitution and By-laws. On November 12th, they met again to vote on organizational changes which included appointing officers and changing their name to the Beavercreek Rifle Club Incorporated! They continued meetings until December 11th when all but one member resigned due to lack of support! With just four active members left, the club disbanded for good on January 1st 1876! However, this did not mean that gun gifting had ended yet! On January 8th, 1876, three men from Cincinnati attended a meeting of the rifleclub in order to discuss starting an organization specifically devoted to giving away firearms as gifts! This was known as “The Gun Gifting Society” and it quickly gained momentum! The next day (January 9th), formal incorporation papers were filed with Secretary Of State George Prentice! As word got out about this new organization, people began contacting them asking if they would like to sell guns or give them away for free!! It wasn’t long before everyone wanted access to these new guns!!! In fact, within months of setting up shop (January 8th-February 2nd), “The Gun Gifting Society” had sold more handguns than any other organization in Ohio!!! These sales were quite lucrative for both individuals/groups who donated weapons and those who bought them direct from organizers!! Unfortunately for “The Gun Gifting Society” though; their success didn’t last long because shortly after filing their taxes (!), they went bankrupt!!! On February 6th 1897 - exactly fifty years after establishment - another group decided that it was time for something new: The Dayton Rifle & Pistol Club!!!!Again though, their success didn't last too long as soon after becoming organized (March 3rd) they filed bankruptcy too!!!!! Sporadic efforts have been made since then but never really took off until recent years when several groups banded together under one banner – The NRA – hoping that this would be enough motivation !! However even with membership numbers surging there has still been no real breakthroughs until now…..
