The Beachwood Naval Shipyard was founded in 1902 by Rear Admiral John J. Stevens and Commander Alfred W. Mahoney as the first naval shipyard in the United States. The yard became a part of the Portsmouth Naval Shipbuilding Company in 1917 and built USS Constitution, USS Independence, USS West Point, USS Porter and many more warships during World War II. In 1969, the Navy decommissioned most of the fleet of ships at Beachwood Naval Shipyard includingUSS Constitution and transferred their hulls to otheryards. However, some vessels likeUSS Lexington still remain there today as museum pieces.
Beachwood is a city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Holmes County. As of the 2010 census, Beachwood had a population of 497 people living in 97 apartments. The city was founded on May 25, 1825 by General Daniel Morgan as part of the Miami Purchase from France. It was named after John Beach, an American Revolutionary War general who fought at Yorktown and then became a United States Senator from Rhode Island. The first post office in Beachwood opened on November 15, 1827. In 1835, George Washington Carver moved to Beachwood from Lima and began to farm cotton near present-day Beech Road and Beaver Street. beachwood was platted on December 3, 1839 by commissioners James Laughlin (a settler) and David Pogue with land that included present-day Delaware Avenue and Park Boulevard NE In 1860, Jno. Wm Coe started a sawmill at Beaver Road and First Street NE which continued until 1961 when it closed due to lack of demand for wood products in such an small town. By 1870 there were 10 businesses operating in town including six stores, two churches, four hotels/motels, three schools (grades 1-6), one printing press (the first in Ohio), two harness shops (one still open today) three grocery stores plus several outbuildings used for storage or parking purposes only; five men were working full time while thirtynine women worked part time mainly dairying or domestic services during those years according to local historian Drs Donald Kappelman & Lynn Vaught’s book “Beachwood: A History” An article about Beachwood published in the "Muncie Herald" dated October 9th 1886 said "There are now but few residents left here since so many died during the great pandemic [1885–1886]".

Beachwood is a town in Muskingum County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,561 at the 2010 census. Beachwood is part of the Lima–Canton–Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded by John Beach on May 12, 1821 as Beachville. At first it consisted of just a few houses and a small millrace that ran through the center of town. However, over time the community grew and became an important agricultural center with its own post office and store. In 1827, John's son George Washington Beach moved his family to Beachwood from Xenia in central Ohio and began to develop what would eventually become one of the most successful cotton mills in United States history. John's grandson Samuel Davenport Beecham took over control of the mill in 1881 and continued to operate it until 1946 when it was purchased by Bethlehem Steel Corporation. The mill closed down but has been preserved as a museum since then. In addition to its role as an important economic center during the 19th century, beachwood also experienced significant social changes during that era which are still remembered today: In 1922-23 beachwood voters passed a resolution urging local officials not to participate in any state or national prohibition efforts; this action helped spur development within beachwood which saw increasing industrialization during this time period; furthermore, other nearby towns such as Grafton (founded about half way between beachwood and Lima) also voted against prohibition so support for organized crime within those communities wasn't possible; these choices ultimately led to increased lawlessness in central Ohio during this time period which made it difficult for law enforcement officials to combat crime effectively The town's heyday came after World War II when industry collapsed nationally due largely to overseas competition; however, despite this setback, many businesses reopened within beachWOOD throughout the 1950s including several supermarkets as well as numerous manufacturing plants operated by Bethlehem Steel Corporation until their closure in 1996 Today there are only a handful of active businesses left inside town limits while much of what once thrived along Dayton Road has long since gone out of business BeachWOOD is home to both an annual arts festival known as "Festival Fair" held on Memorial Day weekend and two high school football teams - The Warriors (a member school district athletic association) and The Falcons (a charter member school district athletic association). Both teams compete at regional level competitions each year alongside other Tri-cities schools . vandalism rates have been consistently high throughout recent years leading some residents TO call for more security measures such as metal detectors at entrances
The town of Beachwood was founded in 1802 on the site of an earlier post office. The name is derived from Beech Creek and Wood River, which run through it. The first settler in Beachwood was John White, who arrived in 1802.
