Beachwood is a small, unincorporated community in Stark County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3 at the 2010 census. The town of Beachwood was founded in 1875 by Captain John C. Beech and his family. It was named for the beach on which it was located. The first post office opened in 1878. In 1907, the name of the town changed to Beachwood Heights after its elevation increased from . In 1915, Beachwood Heights became a separate municipality and remains so today. In 1922, Beachwood had its first professional football team when the local high school created an all-star team to compete in the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHA). The team played under the name "Beachwoods" until 1925 when they changed their name to "Beachwood Colts". In 1927, they again changed their name to "Butler Buffaloes" before becoming "BeachWOOD Bears" in 1934. After World War II ended and the area's economy declined, the city of Toledo took control of Beachwood's government and services while keeping most of its residents residentially autonomous with only limited municipal service provision beyond basic township functions such as water supply and firefighting/emergency response. By 1870, there were already many businesses in Beachwood including a bakery (owned by Mrs. Ladd), three stores (one run by Mr. Prentice and two owned by Captian Fenton himself), a sawmill (owned by Mr. Sibley), four blacksmiths (four men working at different times) and two carpenters (two men). In 1925, Beachwood became one of the first cities in Ohio to be incorporated with its own government separate from that of its rural surroundings - an important development considering how rapidly such communities were growing throughout the state during this time period! The city's rapid growth can be partially attributed to its successful infrastructure development including: sewerage systems; paving streets; constructing new buildings; opening schools; purchasing land for industrial purposes etc.; as well as financial support from various government agencies which helped manage tax issues faced by beachwoolians alike!
