Bay, Ohio is a small town in the heart of the state of Ohio. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. Bay is located on the southern shore of Lake Erie and is bordered by Geauga County to the east, Clinton County to the south, and Ottawa County to the west. The area that now makes up Bay was first settled by Native Americans in the late 18th century. In 1814, a group of British soldiers were stationed in what is now Bay when they discovered a group of Indians living near present-day Toledo. In 1824, General Anthony Wayne founded Athens Township in modern-day Toledo as part of his effort to create new counties in central Ohio. In 1830, John Dennison purchased 640 acres from Nicholas Pointe Indian Nation for $1 per acre. This purchase allowed him control over much of what would later make up bay Village including much of what today constitutes bay village beach
