Bay is a town in Butler County, Ohio, United States. The population was 5,236 at the 2010 census. Bay is part of the Cleveland-Akron-Canton metropolitan area. Bay was founded in 1824 when Captain Augustus Stiles and his family moved from Napoleonville, Kentucky to what is nowBay City on the southern shore of Lake Erie. The first post office was established in Bay in 1828. In 1830, John Aiken founded anvil works near present day Houghton Lake where he manufactured nails and other tools. The first school in Bay was called "Grace Hill" after Mrs. Grace Godfrey (1800–1862), who served as teacher and trustee for the town until her death in 1857. The first public school opened on October 2, 1829, by order of Governor George Washington Carver with $5 from local citizens Isaac Stevens and Ebenezer Moultrie among others In 1830 there were three churches: one Congregational with thirty pupils; one Methodist with seventy-five pupils; and one Baptist with twenty-seven pupils In 1840 there were only two schools: one Public School for boys under 10 years old (later known as Kenton Elementary) and one Female School teaching reading aloud to girls (later known as Northside Female Seminary). After becoming an incorporated village in 1851 all but two of its residents voted to secede from Butler County because they felt their rights were violated when township meetings did not take place within the boundaries of their townships rather than within those of their fellowvillagers bay had a total population of 1,000 during 1860 census but this number dropped to 500 by 1880 due largely to influences brought about byImproved transportation facilities which connected Butler County more centrally with Cleveland

Bay, Ohio is a small town in northeastern Ohio, U.S.A., and the county seat of Noble County. The population was 7,898 at the 2010 census. Bay was founded in 1836 by John Fenton and others as a trading post on the Great Miami River. In 1855 it became the county seat of Noble County; it was moved to its current location in 1925. Bay has been inhabited by various cultures for thousands of years and had numerous settlements throughout its history including one from as early as 1400 A.D. The first permanent European settlers arrived in 1836 when John Fenton established Bay as a trading post on the Great Miami River near modern day Chillicothe, Illinois Territory. In 1855, Noble County was created from parts of Hardin and Knox counties and Bay became its county seat with new courthouse construction completed in that year. With bay's growth came increased trade relations with nearby towns such as Dayton, Cincinnati, Cleveland and London which helped contribute to the development of local commerce within bay's boundaries over time. In 1925, after much discussion between representatives from Noble County (then consisting of all but one township), Athens Township (the only township remaining within bay) and neighboring townships about moving their respective county seats to Athens due to increasing population growth rate in those areas (due largely to industrialization), Bay voted to become an independent city under charter formality on July 1st 1925 - becoming one of only two cities in Ohio metropolitan area at that time without any forms of municipal governance other than annexation into larger municipalities or special districts during this period; the other being Akron . The following year saw major changes when Athens Township petitioned for incorporation into bay while still retaining responsibility for government operations within bay - this request was granted effective October 1st 1926 with primary purpose then becoming providing services such as fire protection, police service & trash removal for both villages combined while also continuing mayoral elections until Mayors were elected through popular vote instead utilizing positions held by City Council members prior thereto who then served terms until election results were known;Council members serving interim terms continued through general election November 3rd 1927 although term limits had already been set at 2 years previously .
