The squadron was activated on Dec. 10, 1942 and arrived at their new base on the West Side of Columbus. The squadron had two detachments: one at Marine Barracks and One at Navy Yard. The first deployments were to the Mediterranean area where they served as part of 5th Fleet. They relieved British forces that were besieged in Malta. In October 1943 they sailed to Naples, Italy for a five-day deployment before sailing back home to Bermuda. They also deployed to North Africa in early 1944 as part of Operation Market Garden which aimed to retake Belgium from Nazi Germany. They arrived in Casablanca on Sept 25 and spent six days ashore before departing for Argentia Bay, Newfoundland where they refueled and disembarked troops for duty against the Germans. After landing their troops at Juno Beach on Oct 1st they continued their advance inland until being driven back by German counterattacks decided to turn around and return home via land transportation instead of shipping back home due to fears of enemy submarines interception while en route which would have resulted in heavy losses for both sides involved. In 1945 when Japan surrendered they decommissioned all naval forces within it including USNAFE which moved its headquarters from Newport News, Virginia to Seattle Washington after the war ended without achieving any major goals or accomplishments speakable from its time there like becoming an operational navy squadron or even resulting in any battlefield wins or losses however it did manage a few rank changes among its members such as Commander John Slessor taking over duties as Squadron Commander from Lt Col Harry Moller Jr who had been Squadron Chief since February 1945 USS Omaha became inactive Jan 15 1948 when all naval forces within Japan were dissolved following its surrender

Barberton, Ohio is a small town located in the northeastern corner of Greater Cleveland County, Ohio. The population was 10,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1814 by Adam Barber and his family. It became a stop on the Underground Railroad for runaway slaves. In 1847, it was renamed for General George Washington Carleton after he presided over the Summit conference in that year. In 1903, Barberton united with neighboring towns of Northfield and Fairfield to form the city of Barberton. That same year, its only store closed down and all businesses were consolidated into one building until 1984 when another store opened up and continues to be used as an anchor tenant today. Today, Barberton rests on a pedestrian-friendly square two blocks long with two churches (First Baptist Church & Presbyterian Church), four restaurants/cafes/bars/stores, three public schools (including one private school), two libraries (one public and one individualized), six parks or open space areas totaling , five bars or pubs/ nightclubs on Main Street (and two more satellite locations within walking distance) and business incubation center including several start-ups - all of which have brought new life to what has been once known as "the little town."
