Barberton is a small town in theuy of Barberton, Ohio. The population was 1,763 at the 2010 census. It is located in Cuyahoga County. The first settler in Barberton was Caleb Dickey and his family who arrived about 1800. The town was platted on May 20, 1824 by James Prentice and Alfred Myer. A post office called Barberton was established on July 5, 1825, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on October 15, 1829. The first store in Barberton was built by Noah Webster and operated from 1830 to 1840. A sawmill and gristmill were founded in 1841 by John Gannon and continued operation until they were destroyed by fire on December 9, 1845. A brewery also operated briefly in the early 19th century; however it failed to catch Onondaga County's attention and closed operations around 1840. In 1870, a group of investors led by George Snively purchased the site of the present-day courthouse from trustees for $5,000 cash only – a feat that has been credited with stimulating development within the town since then. The current courthouse replaced an earlier structure which had been damaged by a fire. In 1916–1917, businesses such as J & W Mattress Store (now occupied by Sears) moved into what is now known as downtown Barberton due to improved transportation options available at that time; Trade Mart followed suit soon afterwards when it opened its doors near State Route 422 (now Interstate 76). Today much of downtown Barberton is composed of late 19th century commercial buildings - including several banks - as well as twohistoric residences dating back to 1860 which are used as offices or dwellings respectively No restaurant exists within the boundaries of Downtown Barberton but there are several places where local residents can purchase food items

Barberton is a small town in Delaware County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbus metropolitan area. The village of Barberton was founded in 1810 by Daniel Barber and his family as a stop on the Erie Canal. In 1815, John Park moved to Barberton from Latrobe Township and started an anti-slavery society there. In 1830, David Starr Jordan moved to Barberton and became one of its first mayors. In 1865, Samuel Prentice built the first gristmill in Barberton and became its first miller. In 1871–72, The Ohio Railroad built a line through Barberton and completed it in 1880. The railway led to increased trade with the surrounding villages and gave rise to additional development in the town center including several hotels and stores. By 1920, Barberton had more than doubled in size to its present size with over 100 businesses. In 1927–28, General Electric began construction on their new electric power plant located east of town on what is now Wexford Rd.. The plant would produce enough electricity for all of Barberton until it was replaced by a more powerful generator facility in 1957; however, some people still remember when generators were needed for lights at night because no other source could provide light during those days! In 1969–70 (just two years after General Electric's closure), The Cincinnati Bengals played their home game against Pittsburgh Steelers at Paul Brown Stadium which is now known as University Hall Fieldhouse; this event helped increase tourism around town which has helped keep businesses open since then!
