Avon was founded in 1824 by Englishman Nicholas Roemer and his wife Sarah. The first post office in Avon opened in 1827. In 1849, Avon became a village and was incorporated as a city on July 1, 1896. On May 14, 1907, it merged with neighboring towns of Uniontown and Monroeville to form the new Akron metropolitan area. The City of Avon lost its charter on December 15, 1957 when it joined the Township of Uniontown in that same metropolitan area. Avon has two elementary schools -Avon Elementary School which serves students from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade; and Parkview Middle School which serves students from sixth through eighth grades. There are also three high school institutions -Avondale High School (a public school), Summit Academy (a private school), and Warrensville Community College (a community college). In addition to its two elementary schools and three high schools there are several businesses including Kroger Supermarket & Grocery Store, Applebee's Restaurant & Bar, Wawa Food Mart #1 & #2 along with several churches including United Methodist Church., First Baptist Church., LutheranChurch.- German Village Chapel., Good Shepherd Catholic Parish., PresbyterianChurch.- Bible Study Group Home for Adults & Kids., PentecostalChurch.- Islamic Center Of America..

Avon, Ohio is a small town in rural northwestern Ohio. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Akron–Canton–Muncie metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1824 by Joshua and Hannah Beach. It was named for John Avon, an Englishman who had settled near Lake Erie in 1800. The Beaches were first residents of what is now Avon Township but sold their land to the town on February 2, 1826. On October 6, 1831, the townsite of Avon was platted and became a part of the Youngstown–Warren County settlement. In 1830, William Shively bought 3 square miles (10 km²) northeast of Avon from Joshua Beach for $2 per acre ($160 per hectare). This land became known as Shively's Hill after him. From here he began to cultivate and sell apples for storage on his farmstead until 1840 when he built a gristmill that still stands today along with several other buildings on his property including a schoolhouse and store building which still stand today as well as two churches – First Methodist Church (1830), now calledFirst Baptist Church; Second Presbyterian Church (1840). In 1840-41 also sandstone blocks were quarried nearby to build a main road that ran through Shively's Hill between his farmstead and the mill while also quarrying granite blocks to build some local homes. Shively donated most of his apple orchards to the Wayne Historical Society where they are now open to visitors year round with exhibits about life in early 19th century America during this time period as well as displays aboutshipping apples interstate during this time period
Avon, Ohio was founded in 1819 by John Avon and his family. The town became a port for the shipping of goods from Lancaster County. In 1925, Avon was renamed Oxford.
